Don’t love it.  Doesn’t make the big plays in crucial situations.   I would have let him play out his 5th.

I would’ve had no issues if he walked and somehow did great for another team.   I don’t see how he is currently worth 20 mil per.

Anything over 15 per is a problem for me with Groot.

Would have much rather seen Benford get his deal, work FA and the draft, then circle back to Groot

Hell yeah!  What a deal for the Bills!

Beane has been on fire with extending our core young players to team friendly deals!

Jeez, this is amazing. Three core guys to be here a long time, all of them at surprisingly reasonable costs as we bring them in early.

Really really hoping that making the finances clearer in this way allows them to bring back Benford as well. What this does financially is nicely eliminate some unknown and clear up the whole situation.

I am loving this.

I think people haven’t come to grips that salaries like this are the norm. It’s not just Bills fans but every fan. It’s not an overpay. It seems like it because it’s a massive amount of cash but this is actually less than he could have gotten a year from now for sure

I keep telling myself that he was a year behind development when he sat out the Covid year. I’m hoping he turns into the guy because that’s a lot for a guy who has never exceeded double digit sacks and who has trouble getting to the QB when we need him the most. I do like the player but with that pay raise he needs to become the main guy now, congrats Greg!

That a lot of money for a 6 sack a year guy. Way too much.

He had 8 last season, 8, twice in the last 3 seasons.

8 is more than 6.

But who would take his place? That's important.

Said it in the Bernard extension thread. Pressure to not backslide this season. But moves like this also limit the team’s ability to improve.

I think moves like this make it very clear they are looking to drastically improve this year.

Rousseau at up to 20M per year, along with the cap savings, along with the structures of Shakir (and likely Bernard’s) contract, make it pretty clear they are locking up young players at team friendly contract structures, with the hope further extensions are warranted when the big money hits.

This, in turn, provides cap clarity and opens up cap for more established players they may want to pay immediately in FA or via trade.

Will certainly be interesting to see if they’re comfortable with extending Bernard and/or have any common ground to be found with Cook.

I will hold off until all the moves are done. But this resembles more of what we have seen that leads us to a team that falls short because of a lack of star power. Pay good money to many good players. Rather than pay big money to difference makes are utilize some low level contracts to rookies and vet minimum guys. I still have hope we can add a difference maker on the d line and some speed at wr.

With 3 of those coming in 1 game. So he had 5 paltry sacks in the other 16.

That’s a lot for a guy who disappears as often as he does.

Just because you don't understand what you're watching doesn't mean he's disappeared.

No, it isn't an overpay. In fact, he could probably get more from another team. But I'm frustrated with our defensive line and want some changes. Rousseau is not an elite pass rusher. He would be great if we had an elite guy opposite him. Let's hope we get that done somehow.

The gross number of $80m is for agents, the important number for the player and team is the guaranteed number. An excellent deal for the Bills. If they can find him a consistent running mate on the other side, he will benefit greatly.
