I know everyone is interested in the rookie contract extensions like Benford.

I want to know IF McGovern is going to be Josh Allen's Center for the next 4 years!

This is the last year of his contract.

Spotrac has his market value at $8M AAV on 3 years.  If Beane can sign him for that he should do it now.

I would even think a 4-year contract is worth it.  Connor is only 27 right now.  Centers can easily play until 33.

Great point!

I havent seen enough from Sedrick Van Pran-Granger to know whether he is the future-future or not. But I do think McGovern was an upgrade over Morris, so I'm all for getting him extended.

I know there is hope from fans about Sedrick Van Pran but I don't think we as fans really know how he is progressing.  If the Bills aren't sure that Sedrick could be the long-term answer then they absolutely should extend McGovern.  It would be nice to get those cap savings by extending him but they may want to play it out another year to see if Sedrick could be the guy.

He played way above my expectations going into the season.

I sure would like to know what Josh thinks about this.

I want to believe it's simply another Brown/Bernard case where he needs a year or two to develop, and in fairness we havent seen ANY play from him like we did those other guys.

I'd be fine with a McGovern extension because I like him specifically as a player. We'll just have to wait and see on SVPG. (And you know how patient fans are)

I would.

Best case sce, SVPG works out and they can slide McGovern back to LG. Worst case they have the C position covered moving forward. His position  flexibility makes him a value.

Thinking out even further before long it will be Torrence coming due. I have been HUGE Torrence guy since before he was drafted...but has he done enough to earn a second contract with Buffalo? He's been inconsistent. Shown flashes. But it would be nice to have McGovern in house if they decide to let him walk. Would give the Bills a lot more flexibility on who gets resigned moving forward.

Good point.

Bills need to make room for the 3-4 backups they wisely (and successfully) drafted and are developing.   Otherwise you lose them (and their rookie contracts)

Edwards LG position should be in play for one of the IOL guys.

I guess. It's good to have competition. But I dont see it as a "must do". Edwards is a Kromer system guy. He was good enough to get a SB ring with the Rams.

And he and McGovern are both only 27 yrs old. Those IOLs usually play well into their 30s.

Great thread tho. It will be very interesting to see how it all plays out. The good news is, we're watching to see what we do with our wealth of riches.

We will always need 3-4 good backups at any of the trench positions. Not a bad thing to be overstocked there.

And if they cant break into our starting lineup, Beane has historically been able to trade them off and restock the shelves. Not a bad cycle to be in.

I'm not down on Edwards at all, but he seems to maybe be the guy without a chair when the music stops on his contract next spring.

For years I wanted Beane to build a great line for Josh.  I don't want to see that change, but like other have said, there are guys in the wings.

If Connor is extended it seems to lock out Edwards in my mind.  I think he is worth $5M AAV on the open market.

Not sure if Beane wants to pay everyone currently on the line and try to keep the depth guys.

It's a great problem to have and I hope the right moves are made.

He is getting older. Already 32. I'd rather extend him once we see how he continues to play. And it will be one or two year deals from here on out for him.

Edit: Wrong Connor McGovern. Ours is 27. My bad.

Wrong Connor McGovern. The shlep that played for the Jets is almost 32. Our guy just turned 27. Easy mistake to make, they are very confusing. Same name, same position.

Yup.

Both him and Edwards do just feel older for whatever reason.

Yeah, McGovern extension can probably make some cp space as well.  I like his game a lot. And honestly, if SVPG is knocking down the door he could always move back to guard. A young guy who has been very good and has position flexibility makes sense to extend.
