Benford has to be next

some of my disappointment with the Bernard extension (really, my only disappointment) is that I thought the thread said "Benford" at first, and was upset we didn't extend him (yet).  

 

Dream scenario is keeping Benford and drafting a guy like Barron, Porter, or Hairston in this years draft.  Lock up CB for another 4 years that way.

Yes, that will provide the most.  Extending Rousseau gives the second most at around $10m+
Restructuring Dawkins gives around $8.7m

If Von can do a cut in pay to $5m bonus and minimum base that would save $10m

Beane does have the option to do a simple restructure of his base salary and free up $11M.

I think they do that and do his extension next spring.

Honestly, I would have done him before Bernard. But probably would have waited for both to show more consistency in year 4.

Don't know what type of cap savings we get, if any, from these extensions

Von is enough to get us under the cap by next week.  Then Beane historically likes to only free up cap space when he needs to in order to sign players so it looks like we can’t do anything until we do.  Probably a smart negotiation strategy with agents.

Benford is more than capable playing man. He's a young and still asending player. A no brainer type of extension, imo.

Benford reminds me a bit of Kyle Williams in that we can see how good he is, but no one in league media seems to talk about him. Kyle was a stud and one of the best DTs in the league but he didn't get the press either. And he played at a great value for the Bills his whole career.

 

I absolutely think Benford is an elite top 10 CB. He locks down good receivers. It will be interesting to see what kind of contract he gets.

He was outstanding this year.  He's everything we thought Elam could be at this point.  The two concussions he had at the end of the year scare me a bit though.

I'm loving every minute of that if we land a DE and DT like Bobby Brown in free agency. A huge trade wouldn't be necessary if we could land someone like Sweat. Our draft plans will be a whole lot clearer in about two weeks.

Able to play, yes. But not as good as in zone IMO. The number that would make sense for a contract for him on a primary man team isn't as high to make it worthwhile IMO.

Yeah, losing him really screwed up the game plan since they decided to play more man coverage. We went from an elite corner (Benford) and an above average corner (Douglas), to an above average corner and a shaky bust of a corner (Elam). That is a huge difference.

No he wasn’t. He was the best of a poor group. Is he worth top 10 money, ***** NO!  He’s an average player then is benefiting from having weak guys around him who get the bulk of the targets. What team is going afte a solid player when you have 3 other weaknesses in the back end? He’s a good player, he’s overrated by Bills fans. Bills fans have a tendency to fall in love with low round picks that are average players. They ain’t bad players, they just get more hype because of where they were drafted. Been like that for years

There are virtually no primary man teams anymore. Even the teams that play man the most still play zone coverage more. The league average percentage of man coverage is, like, 30% man, if I remember correctly. A high amount of man coverage is in the 40 to 45% range these days.

That's just a load of bologna. You don't know what you are talking about. Benford is a top 5 corner in the league and every statistic backs that up.
