He's still in his rookie contract. Bills exercised his 5th year option, so currently I believe he's scheduled to make about 13-14 mil this year

Ya that could be an option. Extend Greg to get the cap space down a bit this year, and can maybe front load a bit of the Hendrickson contract for 2025.

 

Or maybe not a popular decision, but could also trade Rousseau for assets, and you clear the cap space

I'd love to sign him. But also, McDermott has been getting a lot out of lower priced and lower drafted corners for his entire career. Heck, Benford is an example of that himself.

 

If they want to pay him, fine. If they don't, I'm not too concerned.

I think they're slow playing it with Benford.  With all of the concussions, it would not surprise me at all if they don't do anything with him this offseason

 

Let it play out before you go forking over big bucks - it's not like the price is going to go up THAT much by waiting another year to see if he stays healthy and productive

 

And it's really a similar story with Rousseau, minus the concussion issues

Im not sure I’d do it this offseason..

 

Id ship out Elam, sign a vet opposite Benford, then draft two corners.  If Benford stays healthy all year and comes up clutch in the postseason, bite the bullet and extend him.. but I’d wait and see, even if it ends up costing us a few million extra per year. 
 

And if we like what’s developing behind him, we can tag and trade.

He is a top 5 - 10 CB and he absolutely will get paid over $20M AAV and he deserves it.

It's really weird, we have many fans on this board that have an anathema to extending good to really good players to their market values.  

 

The good thing is that the Bills will likely extend Rousseau to his market value which will be mid $20's M AAV, Cook to around $14M AAV and Benford to somewhere in the low $20'sM AAV.

it's very sad that he had to get concussed in the KC game.  He was worth 1 score IMO

The AFCC showed me everything I needed to know as far as Benford’s importance. Look at the defensive performance with him in the lineup during the regular season versus when he is out. It’s night & day. I mentioned in another thread that Beane likes to lock up players before they really “earn” it. He bases it on future performance and that allows him to sign them at a cheaper rate. Did it with Allen, Oliver, Bernard.

Totally agree...I'd even argue Groot isn't worth 18M based on his 4 years of production.  He was terrible in that last KC game. I don't think he gets extended unless he blows up with 11-12 sacks this year.  He'll go exactly like Edmunds.

I agree and those are the scenarios I’d like to see play out. Don’t pay him like he’s going to take a big step forward that will never happen.

Benford is going to get the contract we all hoped Elam would earn.  Oops!  I guess it doesn’t matter where you get your star players, it matters that you get star players. We need more hits like this, especially with those early picks.
