I'm not a big fan of paying RBs. But I get what you're saying, he's definitely a weapon Beane's got his work to do. We'll see what he does Damn, Dawkins on GMFB pushing HARD for Myles Garrett on Bills 👍😃 1 1 Quote

Kind of reminds me a bit of the Edmunds/Ed Oliver situation. Cause if we extend him, we save a good chunk on cap space this year. But do we want to give him 20-25 mil a year I think they have to. Bring his cap down so we can Hendricksons contract under the cap before he is signed to a massive deal. Quote

Extend Greg to get the cap space down a bit this year, and can maybe front load a bit of the Hendrickson contract for 2025. Or maybe not a popular decision, but could also trade Rousseau for assets, and you clear the cap space Quote
MJS Posted Friday at 04:29 PM Posted Friday at 04:29 PM (edited) I'd love to sign him. But also, McDermott has been getting a lot out of lower priced and lower drafted corners for his entire career. Heck, Benford is an example of that himself. If they want to pay him, fine. If they don't, I'm not too concerned. Edited Friday at 04:30 PM by MJS 1 Quote
schoolhouserock Posted Friday at 04:37 PM Posted Friday at 04:37 PM Do we think that his back-to-back concussions to end the season will have any bearing on the timing of a deal? Quote

mushypeaches Posted Friday at 05:07 PM Posted Friday at 05:07 PM I think they're slow playing it with Benford. With all of the concussions, it would not surprise me at all if they don't do anything with him this offseason Let it play out before you go forking over big bucks - it's not like the price is going to go up THAT much by waiting another year to see if he stays healthy and productive And it's really a similar story with Rousseau, minus the concussion issues 1 Quote
SCBills Posted Friday at 05:13 PM Posted Friday at 05:13 PM I think the Bills will extend Benford. I think Benford is very good. Im not sure I’d do it this offseason.. Id ship out Elam, sign a vet opposite Benford, then draft two corners. If Benford stays healthy all year and comes up clutch in the postseason, bite the bullet and extend him.. but I’d wait and see, even if it ends up costing us a few million extra per year. And if we like what’s developing behind him, we can tag and trade. 1 1 Quote

DapperCam Posted Friday at 05:20 PM Posted Friday at 05:20 PM Will his price even go up if he balls out again? I say let him prove it for another season before we fork out a huge deal. Quote
Magox Posted Friday at 05:27 PM Posted Friday at 05:27 PM He is a top 5 - 10 CB and he absolutely will get paid over $20M AAV and he deserves it. He's also the 5th rated CB according to PFF Advanced metrics shows that Benford is elite in coverage, tackling and playmaking. It's really weird, we have many fans on this board that have an anathema to extending good to really good players to their market values. The good thing is that the Bills will likely extend Rousseau to his market value which will be mid $20's M AAV, Cook to around $14M AAV and Benford to somewhere in the low $20'sM AAV. 4 3 Quote
Warriorspikes51 Posted Friday at 05:35 PM Posted Friday at 05:35 PM it's very sad that he had to get concussed in the KC game. He was worth 1 score IMO really really good chance we take that game if he played all of it 2 Quote

IMO, if Beane allows him to hit FA, it will be a crazy bidding war for this guy. With corner already being a need, we can’t risk losing this guy. I’m honestly surprised he wasn’t the first one to get paid this offseason. He’s a game changer. Thoughts? The AFCC showed me everything I needed to know as far as Benford’s importance. Look at the defensive performance with him in the lineup during the regular season versus when he is out. It’s night & day. I mentioned in another thread that Beane likes to lock up players before they really “earn” it. He bases it on future performance and that allows him to sign them at a cheaper rate. Did it with Allen, Oliver, Bernard. Quote

He’s not worth $20M-$25M, but some crappy team will do it (just like with Edmunds). The Bills shouldn’t do it, but with the Bernard extension it seems like they probably will. The Benford deal tells me that there is pressure on them to not backslide in 2025. They aren’t looking to take unnecessary risks that could cause a backslide (even if there is upside to doing so). Totally agree...I'd even argue Groot isn't worth 18M based on his 4 years of production. He was terrible in that last KC game. I don't think he gets extended unless he blows up with 11-12 sacks this year. He'll go exactly like Edmunds. 1 2 Quote

Augie Posted Friday at 06:52 PM Posted Friday at 06:52 PM Benford is going to get the contract we all hoped Elam would earn. Oops! I guess it doesn’t matter where you get your star players, it matters that you get star players. We need more hits like this, especially with those early picks. 2 2 Quote
