whorlnut Posted March 7 Posted March 7 With Benford considered a top 5-10 corner in the league, he has to be next for an extension, right? IMO, if Beane allows him to hit FA, it will be a crazy bidding war for this guy. With corner already being a need, we can’t risk losing this guy. I’m honestly surprised he wasn’t the first one to get paid this offseason. He’s a game changer. Thoughts? 4 6 Quote

Buffalo4Life01 Posted March 7 Posted March 7 I really like Benford. He's not flashy and doesn't get you with splash plays but he is super reliable and always dependable. However, I don't think I'd call him a top 5 to 10 corner though. I can see him in the 15-25 range. He's quite good, but not great. Just my humble opinion. Go Bills!! 1 2 7 Quote
Mat68 Posted March 7 Posted March 7 Idk. Bedford is going to be most expensive. Likley the hardest to get to the finish line. 2 3 Quote

I love the player, but that last concussion came on rather easily. I don’t want to get into how he was cleared and all that, it just seems like something we need to be OK with long term. 3 Quote

Sign Benford, draft Porter, sign Ciso or Holland and ... Quote
Virgil Posted March 7 Posted March 7 Josh pry has to come before Benford, if only to free up the cap space 1 2 Quote

However if signs that have pointed to us moving to play more of a man to man defense are true, he's worth less to us than he would be in a zone scheme IMO. The number he may seek may not match up to the output we get in the future. If we move to more of a man scheme, I'm ok letting him test the market. 2 Quote

The one I'm fascinated about is Rousseau. Kind of reminds me a bit of the Edmunds/Ed Oliver situation. Cause if we extend him, we save a good chunk on cap space this year. But do we want to give him 20-25 mil a year Quote

Just too big a weapon to let walk 1 Quote

I'm not a big fan of paying RBs. But I get what you're saying, he's definitely a weapon 2 Quote

WhitewalkerInPhilly Posted March 7 Posted March 7 Agreed. Of the five players we went into with looming contracts (Shakir, Bernard, Benford, Groot, Cook) he's the only one left who I think you can get good value on by locking up early. He's not flashy but his analytics are consistently top tier. Meanwhile Cook and Groot are looking for huge paydays and those are cans I am fine with kicking the can down the road on 1 Quote
nosejob Posted March 7 Posted March 7 (edited) Didn't we already extend Groot?...before? Edited March 7 by nosejob Quote
BarleyNY Posted March 7 Posted March 7 2 minutes ago, nosejob said: And does it limit us from signing Trey? Depends on Rousseau’s contract. If I’m him I hit FA next offseason unless I get the bag from Buffalo. He’s not worth $20M-$25M, but some crappy team will do it (just like with Edmunds). The Bills shouldn’t do it, but with the Bernard extension it seems like they probably will. The Benford deal tells me that there is pressure on them to not backslide in 2025. They aren’t looking to take unnecessary risks that could cause a backslide (even if there is upside to doing so). Quote
