Ahhh ok this is where we agree to disagree. I strongly believe he we would have got significantly more in the open market. I don't believe that Terrel's ankle and pec strain injuries were caused by his size.

Love love love Bernard when playing. And I love keeping him. If that’s the money, fine! What do I care 🤣 What comes along with this is having to draft and sign guys that play his position.  Don’t have to do that with the Queens and Wagners and whonot. It’s just… what it is.

The October pectoral strain if anything may be a training issue.

 

IF Bernard stays relatively healthy throughout this contract, I think it's a win for the team.

 

Yes, pectoral injuries are often a sign of "training" methods when players need extra help coming back from injuries or just looking for a boost in performance. 

 

Every Mike looks better with a better performing line but I found it troubling how often Bernard just gets wiped out. This was an issue in 2023 as well even though he made more splash plays. I would've had Rousseau, Benford, and Cook higher up on the re-sign list than Bernard, but i'll continue to wait on contract details before outright killing the deal. Bernard is a decent player, just not top-10-LBer-in-the-league good.

I am more worried about Matt Milano long term. For me Bills should be looking for his equal or better.

 Bernard will hold his own if they tweak the scheme enough to let he and Dorian fly around to the ball and see the RB eyes because he is not getting washed.

He is another sideline to sideline speed McD type But 10 times more instinctive  , can read and recognize quickly , than Edmunds.

The failing has been the interior of the Dline. They know it too, at least by now I hope,

Type A player in the right schemes.

He is in the right place to be his best.

Brown had the injury concerns as well. I feel he is a unique case altogether. I think most all wanted him to retire or be fired early on lol 

It was all about potential ! from the defenders of Spencer. Fair position to defend even then.

 The risk from Injury is always present. Ankle wasn't it ?? I forget things at my age and condition 😋

I align on the side of quite good deal done and I really like the player.

If I had to guess, and it's strictly a guess:

 

I think Bernard looks at the market and sees that he can get more elsewhere.  But he also sees that a big part of his success comes from being in complete sync with his coach's thinking and style.    

 

Bernard wants to win, and despite knowing he can get overpaid, he'll stay for less, because he thinks he has the best chance of winning with McDermott.

Bolton is just better than Bernard though.... but the difference isn't huge - certainly if Bernard can get back to 2023 form. The Chiefs - Bills rivalry isn't turning on the difference between a B+ middle linebacker and a B middle linebacker. So given the choice I'd probably prefer Bernard at 12 per than Bolton at 15 per. Don't love either deal to tell the truth.

Sherwood just got a 3 year with 30 million guaranteed.

Yea... that is a lot for a one year starter. Makes me feel better about the Bernard deal I suppose although I suppose the Jets are thinking if last season was Sherwood's real level that is a bargain?
