Bill51390 Posted Friday at 02:22 PM Posted Friday at 02:22 PM That’s a good deal money wise and cheaper than what Edmund’s got and Bernard is better. 3 2 1 1 Quote

Cook at that number I can live with, there's only so many dollars. But I guess in McDefense, even linebackers need a red-shirt year before he'll play them so whatever. I'd like to see the exit points from this contract, if the team can bail in 2 years without a major cap hit. It’s considerably cheaper than some guys not much better than him. It’s also a fairly low garauntee amount. Wait to see the real numbers Edited Friday at 02:23 PM by GolfandBills Quote
Slippery Rubber Mats Posted Friday at 02:23 PM Posted Friday at 02:23 PM sleepy beane at it again took a nap and his underlings extended his linebacker 5 Quote
EmotionallyUnstable Posted Friday at 02:23 PM Posted Friday at 02:23 PM I like it but at what cost. Do these “sign your own” solid and favorable deals come at the cost of adding elite FA or trade candidates? It looks good at face value but they need to bring in elite level talent still. 1 1 Quote
Draconator Posted Friday at 02:23 PM Posted Friday at 02:23 PM Smart business by Beane. Locked up your Captain on Defense at a good deal for both sides. Quote

They desperately need a DL that can keep these smaller guys clean. I don’t want to see TB, MM, or any other LB consistently having to take on OGs running free Well we gotta hope that the Bills have a plan of adding serious size to the DT position. 1 Quote
No_Matter_What Posted Friday at 02:25 PM Posted Friday at 02:25 PM I was looking at our roster and cap about an hour ago and realized that I wouldn't be shocked if Milano was surprising post June 1 cut. I'd say chances are little bit higher now. As for Bernard, I like that we are keeping our own, and he was very good most of the time. I am not sure this is the right time and right price, but I'll trust Beane on this one. I hope that we will see actual deal sooner than in Shakir's case 1 Quote
eball Posted Friday at 02:25 PM Posted Friday at 02:25 PM Makes a ton of sense, and not excessive cents, to lock up one of your defensive and team leaders in this manner. Those complaining about this simply don't like Bernard, which is their prerogative, but what he has done on the field warrants this sort of an extension, IMO. 1 Quote

All he does is make huge plays at clutch moments. One of the only true elite players on this team. Thank God he is finally locked up. He hasnt been a whipping boy in YEARS. The current one is Cook. Agreed on the rest. Quote
BuffaloBillyG Posted Friday at 02:28 PM Posted Friday at 02:28 PM 4 years and only $25M in guaranteed money? That's a good value IMO. Low enough AAV that it won't cripple and could be easy to get out of in a year or two. High enough to line him up with players of his level. 1 Quote
HappyDays Posted Friday at 02:29 PM Posted Friday at 02:29 PM Hmm not a fan of this at all. We'll see what the actual contract looks like I guess. Paying a small injury prone player at a non-premium position coming off a down year is just not good business. I'm getting a bit worried that their mindset this offseason is "run it back." That can't be the plan. There needs to be an infusion of more high end talent which is going to be a challenge when we're paying good not great players. 2 2 1 3 1 Quote
gonzo1105 Posted Friday at 02:29 PM Posted Friday at 02:29 PM It’s a good deal AAV wise and with Milano possibly coming off the books in 2026, they needed to lock Bernard in to play alongside Williams. Seems like their getting their value guys re-signed first and work on Benford who’s going to get a massive deal Quote
SCBills Posted Friday at 02:30 PM Posted Friday at 02:30 PM (edited) It’s a good deal (if) we build up the DL in front of him. Just like a Rousseau extension makes sense (if) he’s a supporting actor on the DL. I think Bernard is a monster when able to play in space. The hesitation is simply that we have guys who are dependent upon getting better around them, which is emblematic of the lack of game changers we’ve had lately. With the recent deals, there is an urgency to get them locked up The more signings Beane gets done, the more pressure it puts on Cook's camp. "Hey, we're paying players left and right. But we're about to be out of money. So first ones to sign their offers win. Here's a pen." 2 Quote

The guaranteed money is low enough that it's possible. That would be the one saving grace. That AAV is really shockingly high though. I can't imagine any other team out there giving him that kind of value. It's the opposite of a hometown discount. 1 1 1 Quote

Extending him after his 2024 season is a very, very tough sell for me. He in no way earned an extension. I will wait on contract details before I finalize my opinion, but I don’t see how this could make sense. 1 1 1 Quote
NoName Posted Friday at 02:33 PM Posted Friday at 02:33 PM My first thought was, I'm glad we signed him but I wish the aav was closer to the 9-10 range. After reading this thread, I changed my mind and like the deal better. 1 Quote
Thurman#1 Posted Friday at 02:34 PM Posted Friday at 02:34 PM Good move!!! I like it. It does have an injury risk, but it's not wildly high, and the guarantee is not low but not tremendously high. If he stays mostly healthy this will come to be seen as a very good move. Quote
