I like him, and I’m ok with the terms, but I’m not yet convinced that he’ll hold up as a smaller man in a bigger mans position.  They desperately need a DL that can keep these smaller guys clean. I don’t want to see TB, MM, or any other LB consistently having to take on OGs running free

Don't love this price. Wasn't a difference maker last year. Cook at that number I can live with, there's only so many dollars. But I guess in McDefense, even linebackers need a red-shirt year before he'll play them so whatever. I'd like to see the exit points from this contract, if the team can bail in 2 years without a major cap hit.

Hopefully the plan is to put a much better DL in front of him that allows him to thrive in space.

Something he didn’t have last year, and it showed.

I would say that was valued pretty close to about right.  I thought he was more in the $8 - $9M range, not too far off what I was thinking.  He is the play caller on the defensive side of the ball and he has a knack for making plays via FF, recoveries etc.

That's a position that is now locked up for the next four years.

if they are extending him, benford, and groot, and especially if they bring in a heavy hitter on DL, they need to get cheaper all over the spot w rookies for depth and some starters.  CB, S, DT, as well as maybe an OG/C (edwards will be an upgrade target, torrence will be expensive to extend in 2 years) WR, and maybe RB, and back up qb.

aside from just not having an outside wr, our weakest spots are clearly secondary followed by DL.  we need to add at least one difference maker there.

as far as this specific contract -- 2024 bernard was OK, 2023 bernard was an actual monster, filled up the stat sheet as well as any bills LB i've seen.  if he's more like 23 and less like 24 it's a good signing, if he gets hurt too much it's another albatross.  time will tell.

I fully expect that the Bills will extend Groot, Benford and even Cook.    With the recent deals, there is an urgency to get them locked up

25 mil guaranteed for a very good (and sometimes great) starting LB is a fantastic thing. So many people not liking this is confounding. Who else of the same caliber could you get at that price for 4 years?

hint: nobody.
