Von Miller & Bills trying to agree on contract?

Still need to upgrade the position no matter if he plays with the Bills or not

Not for nothing, but the Dolphins just had 2 guys give back money in the same week. It happens around the league every year.

 

All comes down to if the vet player feels he can get more on the open market. If he feels he can help refuses the cut and is let go. But it's not "props to him". He's still taking where he feels he can make the most money. It's still a business decision.

Von didn't disappear, he was "disappeared."

 

Von only played 16 snaps... by far the least of our edge players (Rousseau played 51 snaps, Epenesa 46, and Smoot 20).

 

When Von was brought in by the Bills (less than 2 months after 13 seconds) it was clearly stated that it was because they needed to put more pressure on Mahomes.

 

Von could have easily redeemed the Bills acquisition of him with one single timely sack but incredibly, by gluing him to the bench, McDermott/Babich didn't give Von a real opportunity to make that one play which would have justified his entire 3 year Bills career.

Throughout all this free agency talk, I've been whispering under my breath once you get past Hendrickson, Garret, and Crosby....might as well be Von still.

 

I like Von six sacks with four games missed not too shabby. Plus he looked pretty good and had a nice pop towards the end of this season. I know he didn't make the big play to close out the AFC championship game like we hoped, but I thought he had a decent game. 

 

Keeping Von and working the draft, plus development of Solomon....not a terrible path forward. 

 

Go get a good FA at DT or CB though

Retiring usually has negative cap implications for the team. And players almost never want to coach. That is suggested a lot, but never happens.

I’m leaning toward a post June 1 release…Frees up money and will be better, long term, for the team…

For this year it would be better for a post June 1st release- But it would actually carry a lot of dead cap for 2026.

 

I personally just hope the bills cut him pre June 1st, get your 8.5 mil in savings, and then you got him off the books in 2026

Von Miller mauy have lost a step but when it comes to this team he is pretty loyal to take the the paycuts just to stay.

I hope they can work it out while we still pursue Mack or Garett

I'm not surprised this is the route Beane and Miller are taking.  Beane gets his cap savings and one less roster spot to fill.  Miller gets to play another year, make good money and play for a contender.  The Bills get a reasonably effective depth player with tons of experience to help mentor guys like Carter and Solomon and whomever they draft along.  A Win-Win-Win for all everyone.

That and there was no time to get to the QB, Mahomes was getting out the ball so fast because our defensive scheme and CB's were getting abused.   I know it's popular lore from fans to blame the game on the Defensive line that game, but it was much more on the CB's than anywhere else.

If Miller takes a $10m paycut, I’m cool bringing him back.  Nobody we can sign for $7m per year will be as good as Miller and it doesn’t stop you from making other moves

If he wants to someday be a GM Brandon Beane can use that and say do a cut now and when you retire I will help start your Front Office career either here or wherever else I may be at that time.

I'd welcome Von back with the paycut, that actually be a great opportunity to save the cap (net amt from releasing him) but also keep a good player.

 

Von came here to win a championship, thought Josh was special to lead us there. 

 

IMO,the only reason he leaves is if he's retiring OR planning to sign with another contender for more than what we offer in a reduced deal.  The latter is likely difficult for him to assess, unless given permission to "seek a trade".

 

I see him coming back on a fair deal again.  Still would give us $$$ to go after more DL help or secondary in FA.

I believe he’s on the books for 23 so I want more than 10. He’s gotta give me 12-14

Frankly, I don't want him back at any price next season. 

 

He played on a limited snap count this season and was gifted all the best pass rushing downs with little production. I think even a replacement level player would be able to get better production than Von in that type of situation. Despite being well rested for the playoffs he completely disappeared when we needed him the most.  

 

The narrative that he took a pay cut last year to help the team out really needs to stop. He restructured his contract so that he'd be able to keep more cash with the 4 game suspension

Thought about this some more. I'd rather cut him and be done. 

If they keep him around it's almost like they're trying to save face. 

It'd have to be a hellofa paycut.
