He was injured for 14 games last year, he performed well the year before and of course previous years.  If the price is right, absolutely should kick the tires on him.  He could be had I'm guessing for around $12M AAV

Is he a 3 tech?  His size and stats would suggest so.  If the price is right, there's probably a place for him on the roster.  I think the bigger need is for a 1 tech as Daquan Jones was disappointing in 2024.   Ed Oliver didn't blow people away either, but the speculation has been he underperformed because Jones wasn't drawing enough attention from opposing offensive linee.

Thw Bills jhave what 4 defensive lineman under contract? They'll I think want 9 on the gameday roster

We need a NT aka a guy that can take on two offensive lineman at once and let guys like Oliver and Bernard to be clean to tackle ball carriers or rush the QB. Think Ted Washington, Pat Williams, Fred Smerlas, Booger McFarland, Tim Bowens, Tony Siragusa....

Yes, Hargrave is a 3-Tech. He isn't a fit for us.

Something i've noticed is most fans can't recognize the distinction of positional groups inside of position groups. They see a DT and think "we need a DT" without knowing that we specifically need a 1-Tech DT and not a 3-Tech DT. A WR but not realizing a Slot WR isn't what we need. A CB but not realizing a Nickel CB is not what we need.

Then there's the idea that you can just make a 3T a 1T or a Slot WR a Perimeter WR or a Nickel CB a Perimeter CB. A Middle Linebacker an Outside Linebacker. A Guard can play Tackle, etc. Or the people who are just like "slide that DE inside to DT".

The specific position a player plays within that position is extremely important. You don't take guys who are put into specific positions bc that's where they fit best and switch them. That's not something that is done very often and most can't do it.

EDIT: I should specify - this is no shot on you @Magox. I actually quoted the wrong post and was more or less just riffing about all of the posts of players that are simultaneously the right position and not the right position.

This is information that should be posted at all times....just because a guy is 330 340 doesn't mean he can stop the run. It's the Jordan Phillips misconception....the guy made a few splash plays because he freelanced but he was a horrible run defender.

He will be 32 which is very on the border of past their prime for DT's and he's coming off a season where he was hurt (although he was very durable prior to 2024). I wouldn't hate it for a modest price but I think D.Jones is a solid veteran backup 1-Tech who this team already has under contract and the cap savings on cutting Jones is only 2 million so just on the cap it makes more sense to keep Jones and not sign Hargrave who will still cost some sort of moderate cap hit and might not present that much of an upgrade.
