Mitch Morse retires

Big respect out to Mitch.

 

He was effective and fun to watch, and from all reports a really good person.

Oh, and being one of the few OL players doesn't make you seem a lot better. It makes your job a lot harder. 

 

Give me Wood at #2, though I don't think Morse was far behind.

Morse was a great guy. Solid player. Pretty much a guy you want on your team. I think his steady play and knowledge helped Josh develop more than it gets credit for as well. He's in the pool of people that helped Josh early in his career for sure. 

 

Hope he has a happy and healthy retirement and enjoys time with his beautiful family.

I don't think Wood had much talent to work with beside him in his entire career.  We had a revolving doors of guards and our QB's sucked.

If we won more, Wood would have been held in higher regard.

Al BeMiller. He was Kemp & Lamonica’s center and 2x AFL Champion. Then Will Grant. Morse is down the line a bit. Mike Montler & Bruce Jarvis Centered the Electric Company in the early 70’s.

Morse really helped stabilize our center position at a time we were having extreme difficulty finding a good center. Great leader and person. Wish him the very best. 👍

Levitre was a pretty solid guard when he was here, in fact he an all rookie but think that season Wood played Guard. Toss in Wood also played with Ritchie Incognito who was a pretty good player (note I said player not person). I'd put Wood in same class as Morse but maybe give more to the latter as seemed to have a bit more leadership to him.

I think Levitre was exposed once he signed in TN.  Fitz used to get the ball out quickly and we used to spread the defense out which is why we had a pretty good run game.

 

But yes, Incognito was good for 3 years.  I just remember not having much outside of that.

Here's my ranking:

 

1) Kent Hull

2) Eric Wood

3) Al Bemiller

4) Will Grant

5) Mitch Morse

 

There is a wide gap between Kent Hull and the rest, though. He is a top 10 Bills player of all time regardless of position, in my opinion.

totally agree..glad he could walk away from this on his terms...and no more concussions !

he was high character man, 6-6 sort of playing out of position, as he played tackle at Mizzou, he did a great job of pulling to the edge to lead the off-tackle plays and sweeps...was a bit over-powered due to his lean and long frame by bull tackles as center was not his true calling...

Congratulations on a great career Mitch. Thanks for all that you did for Josh and Buffalo! And for always doing it with such class and compassion. I won't forget how the team really leaned on him through the Damar situation, for one.

P.S. Yeah, it must have been a real eye-opener going to Jacksonville after coming from Buffalo and K.C. In the first 9 years of his career, his teams were 103-43, made the playoffs every single year (2 wild card losses, 5 divisional round losses, 2 AFC Championship losses). Jacksonville was 4-13 this year. Previously, he had never been on a team that had fewer than 10 wins. Seven of his nine years his teams had 11-13 wins. Tough to go from two of the better run franchises in the game, to one of the worst. Organizational stability definitely matter in the NFL.
