MrEpsYtown Posted 10 hours ago Posted 10 hours ago Good move for Chicago if it happens. As for why, I think it's just asset allocation. You can't pay all of your linemen and they want to pay Trey Smith and already have Creed Humphrey on a big extension. 3 3 Quote

gonzo1105 Posted 10 hours ago Posted 10 hours ago Asset allocation. They are trying to keep Trey Smith but that would be a ton of money invested in an OL and Smith is a pro bowler in his own right who’s much younger 5 1 Quote

He’s still playing very well, but you have to worry about where the cliff is for him. He’ll be 33 in November. I believe in the saying “It’s better to move on from a player a year too early rather than a year too late.” Looks like KC believes that too. 2 Quote
Royale with Cheese Posted 10 hours ago Posted 10 hours ago So KC will have to improve LG and RT this offseason? 1 Quote

Bills and Chiefs have done a great job remaining at the top even with making tough roster decisions. Probably helps when you have the 2 best QBs in the league. 2 4 Quote
Magox Posted 10 hours ago Posted 10 hours ago Wow! I did not see that coming. After watching the Superbowl game the takeaway was that the Chiefs needed to get better with their offensive line, this will create a hole that they need to fill. I'm guessing that the money that they will have to spend with Thuney and Trey Smith was something that they wouldn't be able to afford. The thing is that the Chiefs aren't nearly as aggressive with their salary cap maneuvers as some of the more aggressive teams. Very surprised. Quote
Buffalo_Stampede Posted 10 hours ago Posted 10 hours ago Thuney for a 4th in next years draft is good time to bring up that Beane traded Cody Ford for a 5th. 6 1 Quote
Cray51 Posted 10 hours ago Posted 10 hours ago Good move for Bears, and the right move for KC. They couldn't keep Thuney/Smith/Humphrey all at once given their contract situation. Taylor will be gone after next year, so I'll be interested if they spend anything substantial for Thuney's replacement this year, or wait until next year (maybe a Vet 1 year deal makes sense this year for LG). Essentially they decided they would have a 25 year old vs the 31 year old. Betting on potential If your trying extend your championship window it is probably the right move. Still losing Tuney is a big risk especially as he was their leader and can play swing tackle if needed. Sure Reid has a plan to fill that but it is a major risk for next year. 3 Quote
TheFunPolice Posted 9 hours ago Posted 9 hours ago Bills OL is a real strength of the team and we are lucky for it. Many teams have terrible OL 1 2 Quote

Nice move for the Bears, the Lions (and us) have got their turn as of late. Hoping Ben Johnson can help turn them around, this is a good start. I hate Chicago, but those fans deserve it Quote

Many teams have terrible OL The smartest move Beane made on the line with personnel was invest in the tackles over the guards and center. Letting Morse walk, and locking down Dawkins and Brown created stability on the line and the guards are ultimately replaceable compared to the tackles. Compared to the Chiefs, who have their money tied up in their Center, RG (Smith), and Thuney, which forced them to play bad tackles (Taylor stinks) and shift Thuney to LT which hurt them. Now they move on from Thuney, will extend Smith, release Taylor next year, and now need to replace both tackles while still having $50M tied up in their interior 2 1 Quote
SCBills Posted 9 hours ago Posted 9 hours ago (edited) KC has done this with their secondary and haven't missed a beat. Let's see if they can do the same on the OL. It's a different beast, and they're already weak on that unit to begin with. Edited 9 hours ago by SCBills 1 Quote
Jauronimo Posted 9 hours ago Posted 9 hours ago I think the Chiefs understand that they could play only 2 offensive linemen and we still won't be able to dial up pressure. 2 2 Quote

I love the big guys as much as anyone, but big, strong, cheap and young is the way to go at G. T is a much more premier position. I always wonder... if you had a HOF, best guard of all time with elite measurables how much value would that add over the average solid NFL starting guard? Obviously whichever side that guard played on would be solid, but then I would think your other guard would be exploited by the D. great tackles can neutralize a great DE, and we've seen that happen in the league for years. 1 Quote

Yeah, I'm not going to question their strategies, they are an A+ organization. Just that it does create another hole when it is clear that this was their biggest weakness. Quote
