I think the Bills may go after one high level free agent or trade. They need defensive backs, tackles, and ends. The offense needs a #1 wide receiver.

Which of the possible big name players that may be available would you be most excited about if you hear the Bills have signed him?

For me it would be D.K. Metcalf, when previously it was Crosby or Garrett.  This offense needs someone who can consistently catch balls down the field and outrun a defense. Being a human bulldozer is a bonus, one that fits in well with the team’s philosophy. He is 27, six foot four, 225 pounds, and with 4.33 speed at his 2019 combine.

I know it is the defense that most needs the potential first round pick that it would likely take, but Metcalf ‘s the perfect player for this offense and team right now.  He will enable their young crop of receivers-- Coleman, Shakir, Kincaid, and the running backs-- to rise to their potential in 2025.

If I hear Metcalf was signed I will be very happy, knowing the Bills’ offense took the next step, and will be one of the top offenses in the league next year and beyond. Even better than this past year. Almost unstoppable.

Signing Metcalf would then mean all hands on deck can focus almost exclusively on the defense, as their main need on offense was eliminated.  All draft capital, potential trades, focused solely on revamping the defense.

The Raiders likely want him, but Metcalf would probably prefer Josh Allen throwing to him than…?

Remove EDGE from the equation. Jevon Holland. Taylor Rapp saves $3M as a post-June 1st cut with only $666K in dead cap the next two years (correct me if my cap analysis is wrong). Holland is not even 25 - three years younger than Rapp - and coming off a down year. He'll still get paid, but I would call it a fair possibility.

I am surprised more here, and overall, seem much less interested in Crosby, who would likely be my 2nd choice after Metcalf.

Two fewer years in the league than Garrett, two years younger, and similar sack #s, though he missed games last season, QB hits, and TFLs.  Seems like he would be a lot cheaper ($ and trade wise) possibly as well-?

Either way, Garrett or Crosby would likely have a significant effect on the rest of the defense, enabling players like Oliver, Rousseau, and the linebackers to have career years. I think in a less direct manner, Metcalf would do the same for Coleman and the receivers.

At 25, and on this team, I like Holland a lot.  Could be a cornerstone for years.  And we know McDermott's first big moves were bringing in two safeties, Poyer and Hyde, and then Tre White with a first round pick.

But it was reported today that Holland is 'projected' to sign a 4 year $60 million contract with the Raiders.  I don't think the Bills are considering that kind of payday for a safety right now, with other more pressing needs on the D line and defensive backfield.

I really like Crosby as a good 3-4 year play, he's going to be 28 and he would give this team a big time "war daddy" pass rusher for 3-4 years which fits the teams needs and allows them some time to develop players behind him. But I honestly don't think the Raiders are going to trade him. Garett at age 30 at a high cost of picks and cap space just seems like too much of a gamble. DK I like a lot but I think the need for a defensive dynamic pass rusher is greater.

If I had to rank them.

  1. Crosby
  2. DK
  3. Garrett

I get why most Bills fans want Garrett, but does he move the needle to the necessary point it needs to be for the Bills to win the SB?

Along with other expected upgrades at safety and DL, he must certainly does.

He's the type of player that will make Rousseau better,  Oliver,  Milano...

It's a no brainer in my opinion.

Garrett is obviously the biggest potential fish out there but I’m not sure what it would take to acquire him. The Bills have significant needs on the DL and at minimum half of their secondary needs addressed.

If we could get Garrett by giving up pick 30 and next years #1 I wouldn’t hesitate. But I really wouldn’t want to give up anymore unless it later round picks.

I’m not expecting the Bills to get Garrett, but am hopeful they hit in the draft at DT, DE, S and CB. If they somehow hit on three of those, they’d be set for the foreseeable future while having a better overall cap situation.

Unfortunately, as has already been noted by others, Beane has missed on drafting impactful players in the early rounds and has had to make up for it thru FA and giving up draft capital which had caused negative ripples.

Even at the EXPENSE price??

I think I’m with you guys on all of this, but if it blows up in the Bills faces, they will not have any future picks to do anything about it.

Yes, at the price.  Which we don't know at this point.

We need to win a super bowl in the next couple of years.  Gotta go all in.
