Von was 30ish when he signed his 6 year deal which we all knew in all likelihood would be 3 and out.  3 to 4 years younger than Slay. Never said I was against signing Slay, just cautious.  He'd definitely be an upgrade over Douglas.

Would

sign him to start opposite Benford.  Let Rasul walk

sign another depth veteran CB,  Ingram and a draft pick

a top tier player who beat KC head to head in the SB deserves a long look at the very least

I already feel they are ready to let Rasul walk. If they picked up Slay , I would hope they were not going to pay/bid for him. If cheap ? Draft his apprentice and tie him to his hip. But I dont feel it's an answer at all.

Prefer they solve CB across from Benford for next four years asap. This would work with my thoughts above perhaps ?^

Honestly, it’s one of the most appealing aspects about Myles Garrett. I’m not sure if people fully comprehend how good he is. If you injected, a hungry Myles Garrett into the Bills, it isn’t crazy to think that he would be the best player in the NFL. He’s the best defensive player now and he’s playing with, and for, a trash team.

And yet I still have trepidations. It's likely nonsense and also some form of Trauma that we were stuck with Von , as unfortunate as the injury was.

 But Myles

I am pushing my chips in

I wasnt for Mario and I certainly wasnt for Miller

and here I am

Slay is past that hungry imo. But surely could serve a higher purpose while standing in for the season

With a post June 1 cut, can he be signed (or at least come to an agreement) with another team before 6/1?

Yes.  He can sign with a team and be with them before June 1.

He benefited from being on the number 1 defense.  It looked like he lost a step 2 years ago.

Depth signing…sure.  35 year old starter we need to depend on for 20 games…no thanks.

What??  I know Von hate can cloud opinions but this is getting ridiculous.  Von Miller was a force the very first game he was in a Bills uniform.  He was pretty much a man against boys scenario.  Von came here in great shape and seemed like a leader.  As I remember it, Von had pretty much the game sealing sack against the Rams.  And during the half season he was on the line the Bills became the Superbowl favorites.

Von came here in great shape and significantly improved the Bills.  I'm sorry if this gets in your way of Von hate.

For 9-10 games he was great. For the price, for the long haul... Npt so much.

I don't want to go back to an guy with his best days behind him for CB2...Felt like we been there, done that with the likes of EJ Gaines, Vonte Davis, Josh Norman etc.

If the Bills can sign Slay to a reasonable contract, it makes some sense.  In any case, the Bills are not going to put all their eggs in one basket when it comes to finding a starter at CB to pair with Benford.   I assume they will draft a CB that they think has the ability to compete to start.  Even if they sign Slay and draft a potential starter, they might look for additional insurance.

He can "agree" but he can't sign.

He was legit good in 2024, top defense or not. He had a bounce back year. But agree a 35 year old who looked like an old man two years ago is not someone I want to rely on. It is unlikely last season ends up more than one glorious indian summer at the end of a great career.

Dont get me wrong, I agree with you about 2024...not taking anything away from him in that regard.  But for example, I think its unrealistic he has anywhere close to the same season had he played in Rasul's spot in Buffalo in 2024.  That is why I said he benefited from being on the top defense as the guys around a CB certainly impact them and how they perform as well.  Just like how on a much lesser D 2 years ago he looked on his way out.  So while he was great in 2024, being on the #1 D certainly IMHO contributed to his ability to bounce back and throw down one last great season in a long great career.

And for us, as we both agree, relying on a 35 year old to repeat the same season on a new team with a lesser defense isn't something a team trying to get over the hump should be relying on.

He had those great stats playing behind the Eagles' ferocious D line.  It makes all the difference when the QB has the extra half second or so to find open receivers.  The Bills' amazingly bad work on building a D line is what's kept them from the Super Bowl.  Patching a hole in the defensive secondary with an expensive Band-Aid when we're still relying on losers like Epenesa and Oliver to get to the passer is not the solution.

Those career best stats are interesting

I guess it helps that they can get all kinds of pressure on the QB, making things easier for the guys on the back end.
