I often leave my cart in the middle of the aisle so that a) I am not blocking shelves that people might want to access and b) people can move freely around it on either side.

It's hard for me to imagine somebody being such a spoiled, self-important bullying douchebag that they would intentionally ram into it and hope it resulted in a fight.

Yet here we are...

I’ve not yet experienced a market where there is nearly enough room to “freely move around it” when parked in the middle of the aisle, and I’ve owned a delivery route and spent countless hours in all variety of stores … so while I might not ram your cart, I’d make sure you knew what a selfish, self absorbed shopper you were

If there was no room to move around it, I wouldn't leave it in the middle of the aisle.

In that case I'd leave it out by an endcap, which I occasionally do if an aisle is overcrowded and it's easier to just walk down it and grab what I need.

listened to a podcast the other day talking about the demise of Boston Market. It was basically the cheap grocery store rotisserie chickens that did them in.

Or they could be buying it for someone else. My mother made me go to the store for my sister when it was needed right away.

I once went to get some for a former girlfriend.  Had her give me the flap off the empty box she had so I knew exactly which ones to get.  This was early 1990's so no cell phone in everyone's pocket.

Another story, from when I worked at a casino.  Talking with one of the game attendants and she mentions buying condoms always makes her nervous, she was just 20 years old, I was 43.  I told her that she needed to just go in, grab a box, and slap it down on the counter and stare at the cashier, like "yea, I'm having sex and being careful."  She said she could never do that. So, when I went on my lunch break, I bought her a 12 pack.

My store pet peeve are the robotic spill detectors at Stop 'N Shop. Not sure if they've made their way to other supermarkets but man are they annoying.

They're escaping the stores now...

Rude cart placement is one thing. Running into your Achilles because you are going too slow is another.

I fell down the steps at my house one night, twisted my ankle and broke my foot. A couple of days later, i went out grocery shopping with my wife. I'm hobbling around, in pain and the place was packed........some dude ran his cart into my foot and completely twisted it sideways. I dropped to the floor in tears and the dude just walked away, no remorse, no care in the world, nothing.

..............many would say that i just don't like people and they would be right.

I don't intentionally run into people's carts; however, you leave it in the middle of the aisle and logjam everyone else getting through, it's getting rammed right out of there.

The aisleway is for everyone's use, not just some selfish people who think the world owes them something and feel no remorse in wasting other people's time.

You see, i don't have the time to hang out behind a shopping cart waiting for people to decide whether they want Rice-a-Roni or Mac and Cheese for supper tonight..........my time is valuable to me.

There are two types of shoppers.......

* The type that leaves their shopping cart in the middle of the aisleway and either force people around them or logjam the aisle

OR

* The type that politely moves it over to the side, so other people can get through, get what they need and go about their day

Which one are you?

Now that’s a fair and reasoned response 👍

I feel like it’s a more recent development, a new breed of the middle of the aisle people. They stand on the front corner of the cart and pull it, also taking up way too much space.

When the wife and I go shopping, I'll stay out in the main aisle, and she will go and grab what we need from the product aisles.

I will never, ever, EVER, send food back at a restaurant.

I have always been the same way, but wish I could change for the worst of it. Prices are just so high in so many cases that I feel ripped off. Instead I just don’t go back.

A few years ago I started to send significantly flawed beer back. I haven’t judged beer in a long time, but I am still certified to do so and still pick up on most flaws. But now I don’t order beer out much and I usually stick to what I know is good or ask for a taster first when I do.

...........and this, is the correct answer here.

I can’t believe you guys struggle so much with shopping carts. Just a bunch of shopping amateurs.

I am like a zen master at the grocery store with maneuvering my cart. I will also divert my plans to avoid heavy traffic area, leave my cart at a distance to pop through busy areas, strategically use end caps, etc.

maybe I can offer some lessons?

Yet here we are...

The worst people with carts are at Wegman's on a Saturday. I use the motorized cart if I'm shopping all over the store because of a bad back. When I get  to the intersection of aisles, I slowly inch out  because I don't know how many times peope have come barreling down the cross aisle oblivious to cross traffic

I stay to the side.

I love using peripheral vision AND situational awareness...  It very seldom rubs off on people!  But I try to set an example.

Millennial hitting middle age.  Like standing during a game.  They were taught from the womb to "live their dream."

Same with clueless driving.

...NOW get off my lawn!
