Traded in conference for a 5th while your WR 1 is off an ACL tear and may not be ready for start of season tells me all I need to know.

Got traded for a bag of cookies. Hopefully we can upgrade our WR core. Seems like our plan is crossing our fingers hoping Keon Coleman turns into something.

Don’t panic yet. Usually trades don’t start until after the Combine when teams get some time to restructure contracts to fit big vet deals under the cap.

Again, it’s not the compensation. It’s the player. I think Samuel is vastly overrated.

Is he a number 1? Nope but he's an average to above average number 2 which is what Commanders need. They're trying to get their QB in a rookie deal more talent around him. I think it makes sense for that team.

I wonder if they looking to improve at RB from Brian Robinson and who they could land?

No longer a game changer type guy. Oft injured, seemed unmotivated last year in SF with a big cap number.

However, at just a 5th with the option of either reworking his deal for a lower cap number or using this year and letting him walk (for what would likely be a 5th or better comp pick) it's a good low risk move.

They have money and a 5th rounder isn't a lot to give up. Not to mention they can play Deebo outside and allow McLauren to play inside. Their Offense was already tough to stop.

McLaurin is a deep threat.  Why would they move him inside?   Deebo is more of a slot receiver who gets handoffs, tosses behind the LOS and other short tosses, then uses his quickness, size and strength to gain yardage.

I’m aware of their cap space and that’s one of the reasons why I think they pulled the trigger too quick. There will be better. Samuel just doesn’t do it for me.

Yeah he's basically a 30 year old injury prone gadget guy who you will probably get 10 games out of. Good player in the past and could fit in Kingsbury's offense, and a 5th isn't a massive amount to part with. But I'm not a fan of his at this point

An excellent fit.

It's his health that's the problem, not his talent.

Last year of his contract and his cap hit is small.  Seems like a good risk/reward to me for Washington.

Ok what FA target do you think the Commanders can’t go after due to this trade?

I mean I think his points simply that it makes it unlikely they hop in the market for say maybe a DK metcalf/higgins (or who knows who else comes loose) now that they have McClaurin/deebo

not that a 5 or the cash is crushing to them- just that they are probably done in the “elite wr” market and he didn’t like Deebo in that bracket

But he’s not going to play under that contract, so his current cap number is irrelevant.  You’re essentially sending a pick in exchange for receiving exclusive negotiating rights for signing that player to a contract.

Buffalo got a 2 for diggs last year.

both declining players and disgruntled.  At least it seemed like deebo was.

i just read this morning he wanted to go to Houston or denver

I am choosing to look at this as good news for the Bills- players who want out and have expensive contracts get less draft value therefore Maxx or Myles can be had for like a 2nd. Honestly I did not want him with his current contract so I see why he did not get much.

Has this been stated somewhere?  They have the cap space I think to absorb his money.

seems making him play on a prove it year is the better move than taking on multiple years of money.
