So the NFL is telling loyal fans in London they can no longer buy their season tickets for London Series games. The excuse is the league wants other fans to have access to games. But the reality is those tickets are getting sold to US travel agents for excursion packages, which defeats the whole purpose of international games.

maybe because they are really good seats?  i wonder what percentage local residents attend the game

They are being proactive. Especially after that Lions fan had his tickets revoked from selling them. Don't be surprised when some Bills fans get the same treatment for selling their season tickets going forward.

If they were so loyal they would go to most of the games. Teams are fine if you re sell a few games.  It's when you go to only 2-3 and sell the rest to pay for the tickets that's the problem. 

 

To be fair they aren't the Lions aren't the first team to do it and they won't be the last. I can see it happening when the new stadium opens.

So owners are allowed to sell minority shares and do other things to make money off their investment.  But the fans that pay outrageous fees for season tickets aren’t allowed to make money off their investment?

You can sell tickets and teams have no issue with people selling some of them. Its when you sell more than half is the issue. There was poster on this board who said they hope the prime time games are early in the season as they can sell them at highest price. 

 

IMO my guess is teams are fine if fans sell 4 games or less. If you have season tickets and can only go to 2, there is a good chance you will lose them.

Seems like if you really cared about cultivating international fans you would make the tickets available to local fans. The NFL clearly has data that there's more money to be made selling to Americans traveling. Penny wise dollar foolish move, another one of those corporate moves that's just about short term dollars and not building longer term.

I disagree. My guess is local fans were buying them but a lot were buying them to re sell them.

Can you explain why the teams and NFL have a problem with STH selling most of their tickets? The team has already gotten the money from those tickets, they’ve already been sold, so why does it matter?

I don't know why, especially when you have to go through them to sell the tickets. They make sure to put in the fine print when you buy tickets. 

If you have seasons but 2 tickets and you sell some, it's not a big deal

 

My guess is it's those who have like multiple tickets and sell the majority to make a profit each year.

I don't think the American people are greedy on the whole honestly, look at tipping, look at bills fans donating to charities, etc.

 

That said, agreed and what they tried to do to the Champions League in Europe with that super league they tried before fan backlash was so crazy (US owners drove that). It's not infecting the world with greed as much as going in and taking control (like they did with top level EPL teams) and changing things from inside.

It's probably the individual teams that care because many of them end up going to the opposing team fans instead of home fans.
