So you're out having a few pops with the boys or at a Happy Hour with your co-workers and you get a case of the munchies going...what's your go to Order?

I am a Wings guy 75% of the time but the other 25%  is usually a mix between Beef on Weck, Banana Pepper Dip and Loaded Nachos

Nachos or some sort of loaded fries option.

Nachos are my go to….but only if they can do them right. That is rare these days. When did queso become part of nachos? A proper nacho is not made with queso!

About 40 years ago we had our favorite Mexican place on Hilton Head, and they had awesome nachos! One layer of chips covered with cheddar and jalapeños, then stuck under a high heat to melt. Simple. And perfect! We were planning a trip to Hilton Head and started talking about the places we wanted to eat. About half of the 4 hour drive we talked about foods from certain places, and we became fixated on the nachos from San Miquel’s. We were obsessed with them and decided to go there before we even check into our condo. We went straight to the restaurant and ordered the nachos. We were told “we took those off the menu on Tuesday.” WHAT? They did have some piled up nacho crap with queso, but I wanted MY nachos. After 40+ years they take it off the menu 48 hours before I arrive? They caved and made them for me, but it was the beginning of the end for nachos for me.

I still make flat chips (rounds) with cheddar and jalapeños on most game days.

First choice is an appetizer sampler, depending what is on it.  After that, wings, mozzarella sticks, onion rings, tenders, in that order depending on availability.

In the early days with my wife our big night out on the town was Friday nights at Ruby Tuesday’s. We would share the sampler platter weekly, and I’d have two draft beers while she had a strawberry daiquiri and we played Galaga. The sampler platter was an important part of a perfect evening. Simple times, great memories.

If I get a Beef on Weck fries with gravy on the side is mandatory

That’s interesting. I love my beef on weck, but I’ve never had fries with gravy, and I wouldn’t even know where to go to get it. I’m not sure if I’ve ever even seen it in person. 🤷‍♂️

Our Bills Backer bar in North Jersey makes Taylor Ham fries.  Taylor Ham (pork roll) is cut into strips about the size of steak fries, beer battered, and fried.  It is excellent.

Just made some Taylor Ham (pork roll) for bfast sammiches. This idea (fries) is awesome.

Now you did it! LoL... Beef on weck comes w/gravy!  Just scoop it onto the fries🍟!

AND you never had poutine?

In Quebec... Canada... Even Chicago (FWIW, been served there early, must be it's a French town historically)

Especially "avec fromage!"

😋😋

I’ll have you know I have 516 consecutive days of French lessons on Duolingo, so don’t mess with me! My dog does not look like a goat!

I’ve certainly heard of it, but I was heading farther south as soon as I left for college at 17. Heck, I even had a Canadian guy in my wedding! If you want to call me unworldly, what is this Sundowner stuff I hear about?

Some of the best poutine I’ve ever tasted is from a concession stand at a hockey rink up in Highgate, VT.  My son plays games up there a couple times per season, and I always get a double order.

My go to bar food is usually wings, but I also love some onion rings when I’m having a few beers. 🍻

Just like wings... Fries can be easy to make... But done right, fresh, hot, right amount of crisp...  Makes a huge difference...

Same with gravy.  Gers a Lotta snickers, but done right!😋😋

I could have made a meal of the brown croutons they had at the salad bar … maybe the best thing about Ruby’s

Oh man that's another staple in WNY.  Do you have any bowling alleys nearby?  I have never been to a bowling alley that doesn't serve fries with gravy.

My wife’s roommate worked at Ruby’s when I met her. She was a bartender and made about $400 on a good night. We made peanuts as new kids at banks. That is why it was a little eye opening when the bartender was wearing my wife’s missing ring while slinging drinks. Live and learn.

My ex-BIL once went to court because he stole a cherry tomato off a salad bar at a Wendy’s. He did it, he was confronted, I bet all he had to do was not be a jackass. But he was an entitled doctor and couldn’t just be decent to make it all go away.

No, I don’t recall seeing that on the menu at the last bowling alley I attended, in Florida.

That might only be a WNY thing as well I'm not sure.  I was in a bowling league as a kid and I looked forward to those fries with either gravy or nacho cheese every Saturday morning.  Best fries ever
