Sounds fun but Cleveland can’t trade Garrett before 6/1 due to the cap hit

Literally every person I've heard that sounds like they have a legit understanding of Cleveland's cap situation has said the exact same thing. It's not the off season yet, and they are going to do plenty I'm sure, but a pre Draft Garrett trade puts them at 38 million over going into 2025 right now. That's a lot to cut just to be even. According to Spotrac a post 6/1 trade gives them almost 5M in savings! Of course they have to wait for that... But it's a big net difference. Anyway...

This is from 2019 before the draft

apparently he either wanted to be a Bill or must have expected to be

Let's be honest there isn't a WR in the world who wanted to be a Bill in 2019

Trade a 2026 second and change… if he walks we likely get a third round comp pick in 2027.  Got to go all in the years… Chiefs are vulnerable and they have a ton of seats to sell at the new stadium.

Trade a 2nd and a 4th this year for Metcalf and a 1st this year and a 1st and 2nd next year for Garrett.

Reasonable.

Reading this gave me such a bulge in my pants my wife noticed and asked what porn I was looking at.

Interesting enough, although his TD totals have gone down with Geno as his QB, his yardage has been consistent over his career:

with Russell Wilson: 3 years (49 games): 3,170 yards and 29 TDs

with Geno Smith: 3 years (48 games): 3,154 yards and 19 TDs

D.K. has averaged 1,054 yards and 8 TDs per season over his career. He is the 12th/13th highest-paid receiver currently, averaging 24 million/year. No question he is a very talented guy, but I kind of agree with ChickenBoo---not sure his production is worth the price, overall.

Now, if he were the piece that put us over the top, I'm not sure anyone would be complaining about money. It's just the question is, as always, would any other area of the team (like defense where we need the most improvement) suffer with that big of a cap hit for a WR (and keep us from getting over the top, no matter how good the offense is)?  Would the boost he gives us on offense (an offense that is already one of the highest scoring offenses in the league) offset or be a bigger help to the team than what we could have done with that money elsewhere?

Interesting enough, over the last 5 season, D.K. is 12th in receiving yards (of all WRs)---pretty damn good and right about where he is paid (12th).

But, if you look at individual years, his rankings are not quite as high as his salary would suggest, imo.

2024: 25th in rec yards, 51st in rec TDs

2023: 18th in rec yards, 12th in rec TDs

2022: 16th in rec yards, 26th in rec TDs

2021:  28th in rec yards, 4th in rec TDs

2020: 7th in rec yards, 8th in rec TDs

2019: 34th in rec yards, 19th in rec TDs

So, I don't know. I would be happy and welcome D.K. with open arms if the Bills decided to and were able to sign him, but if it were my decision alone, I think I might look to build elsewhere.

Well said.

What some Bills fans fail to realize is that Brian Daboll is now the failing HC of the NY Giants. Joe Brady is currently the Buffalo Bills OC and he runs a more balanced offensive game plan. In some games, the Bills run far more than they pass the ball for a reason as that particular team might be more susceptible to the run. The Seahawks game last year, 34 passes, 34 runs. The Arizona game had 33 runs, 24 passes. Against the 49ers in the snow, 38 runs, 18 passes!!!!!

Least we forget that the QB of this team just won MVP with the current WR corps. "Everybody Eats" worked!

What they also fail to realize is this team is damn close and has been the last few years. Its like lady luck has taken a crap on Buffalo in the Chiefs games in losing both games by 3 points. One a missed FG and the next a dropped pass. This team isn't one overpriced WR away from a Super Bowl.

However, they are a few players away on defense. A DT, A CB, A pass rusher or two. a Safety.

what? Allen was highly entertaining and a rising QB

I remember no WR wanting to come here. Allen somewhat broke out in 2019 but his rookie year did not entice receivers to come. He was a 1 read throw or run QB.

I'd love to see Metcalf in our offense.  He's still only 27.  He is big and fast is a minimum of 900 yards and 7 TDs (but 2 fumbles) guaranteed.

Wow, his cap hit is $31.875 Million.   Someone much better with cap manipulation is going to have to explain how the Bills would fix that deal to make it work.

Not for acquiring team. It’s 18M non guaranteed

I’d give him a 4 year 108 mil deal without hesitation and include Void years to keep the cap hit lower.

Everybody eats worked this one time....but there were a few stinkers. As the league evolves, so must the offense. *****, the defense is about 6 seasons behind 😆

Thanks for the info.  Don't see how a 27 mill extension works for us either.  Oh well.

we had Diggs with a 31 million cap hit this year so….

pretty sure that wont be an issue

It's not oh, well. Pegula may be cheap with the Sabres, but he can follow the void year m.o. of the Eagles.

Prime Josh Allen is the time to go all in, and I think there's a decent chance it could happen.

IMO Metcalf with Allen has very real potential to be a legit top 5 WR

take everybody eats and let that beast eat first then everyone else can have the leftovers

He would also give us the chance to have a much more explosive offense.

assuming Cook stays, we’d be a complete offense capable of winning however necessary

Well, if we couldn't keep Cooper involved in our O, how would Metcalf even play out?!?

If we wouldn't know what to do with Metcalf than maybe we just flat out struggle to strategize any wr.  I'm  not a fan of 5 mediocre wrs all eating.  We don't stretch the field.  We don't attack the middle with 12 personnel. I'm still convinced we need a fast wr1.

I'm not sure about top 5 WR, but I do think you would have a complete powerhouse offense that can answer any defensive strategy. DK is the missing piece, and Beane ought to seize the moment.
