Interesting enough, although his TD totals have gone down with Geno as his QB, his yardage has been consistent over his career:

 

with Russell Wilson: 3 years (49 games): 3,170 yards and 29 TDs

with Geno Smith: 3 years (48 games): 3,154 yards and 19 TDs

D.K. has averaged 1,054 yards and 8 TDs per season over his career. He is the 12th/13th highest-paid receiver currently, averaging 24 million/year. No question he is a very talented guy, but I kind of agree with ChickenBoo---not sure his production is worth the price, overall.

 

Now, if he were the piece that put us over the top, I'm not sure anyone would be complaining about money. It's just the question is, as always, would any other area of the team (like defense where we need the most improvement) suffer with that big of a cap hit for a WR (and keep us from getting over the top, no matter how good the offense is)?  Would the boost he gives us on offense (an offense that is already one of the highest scoring offenses in the league) offset or be a bigger help to the team than what we could have done with that money elsewhere?

 

Interesting enough, over the last 5 season, D.K. is 12th in receiving yards (of all WRs)---pretty damn good and right about where he is paid (12th).

But, if you look at individual years, his rankings are not quite as high as his salary would suggest, imo.

 

2024: 25th in rec yards, 51st in rec TDs

2023: 18th in rec yards, 12th in rec TDs

2022: 16th in rec yards, 26th in rec TDs

2021:  28th in rec yards, 4th in rec TDs

2020: 7th in rec yards, 8th in rec TDs

2019: 34th in rec yards, 19th in rec TDs

 

So, I don't know. I would be happy and welcome D.K. with open arms if the Bills decided to and were able to sign him, but if it were my decision alone, I think I might look to build elsewhere.

Agree with you. The Bills have a real chance of winning a Super Bowl, if they pursue players like Garrett & Metcalf.

This immediately allows Keon Coleman to move into the full-time Z role and operate out of the slot or off the ball which I think would help him development and maximize him impact. 
 

If they can figure out a way to send one of our 2nd rounders in exchange for this guy, I’d be so stoaked. 

 

2020 1st round pick —-> Diggs of 4 years of amazing WR play ——> Trade Diggs for 2025 2nd round pick —> trade pick for DK Metcalf

And now we just have to find a starting CB, a starting 1T DT (to replace Daquan Jones), and a starting Safety (if they aren't comfortbale with Bishop), amongst other important rotational and depth pieces - while having little to no cap space and no pick before basically Round 3.

 

Not to mention the hits both those players will be in Year 2 of their deals when the bigger money starts, greatly compounding our cap space while Christian Benford, Greg Rousseau, Terrel Bernard, James Cook, Connor McGovern, and David Edwards all become Free Agents. And again, we would have no pick before Round 3 to replace anyone with.

 

I could see DK Metcalf happening. I could see Myles Garrett happening. But I cannot see DK Metcalf and Myles Garrett happening.

The Bills seem to do better finding players later in drafts, so I’m ok with not having premium premium picks for the next 2 seasons.

I'll take Metcalf but if Beane does this for the same draft capital it would have taken to get BTJ in the middle of the first round last year, not to mention probably $20 million more a year, I'll regret that non-move in last year's draft even more.

Sounds fun but Cleveland can’t trade Garrett before 6/1 due to the cap hit, plus they already have 13 draft picks this year.

 

2025 2nd and 4th for Metcalf

use our 2025 1st and 2nd on DT and CB/S

 

2026 1st 2026 3rd 2026 6th for Garrett

 

resign #13 and sign a good UFA CB and/or Safety
