Go look at how many first rd grades are out there for 2025 draft.  Go look at all the guys being mocked to us at #30.  Which one is more likely to close the 3point gap we lost by in the AFCCG this past season?

33 was the magic number for the AFCCG.  Mahomes and Reid continually outcoach opposing DC's, and stacked defenses.  If you forget the recency bias of the SB, Mahomes has won the SB ~50% of his seasons.  It doesn't matter what studs you put out there on defense, theyre going to outscheme you, and limit your defenses star players.

 

Trying to copy Phillys defensive mold would take us throwing everything out, and starting all over again... you can put an All-Pro player at each level of the defense and they'll find a way to scheme that guy out.  We are never outscheming them like that, and we don't have the resources to implement a DL like PHI has, and especially not at the same time as we're filling out the back of our defense to PHI's caliber.  We're miles away.

 

On the offensive side of the ball, we had a chance to put that game away.  Our defense was -- THE OFFENSE.  Control the ball, score at a high clip, and TD's.  The offense got bogged down one too many times.  Chiefs were able to pu minimum resources to our outside WR's, and sell out to stop the run, protect middle of field against our TE's/Slot.

 

Adding one bonafide outside threat ( A.Cooper hurt and thrown into the grind mid-season, without TC or a chance to develop chemistry, does not count) into the equation, helps overload Spags' defense and completely alters their defensive gameplan... that game isn't coming down to a 4th and inches (was a 1st on 3rd down anyways).  We're instantly a better balanced team. We sustain more drives, or cap them off with 7's instead of 3's.  Mahomes is forced to play from behind, and unable to make a mistake, or settle for 3. 

 

Bills get to play more loose, take shots deep that hit. Or aren't the end of the world to waste a down on, if the defense cant crowd the line/middle of field.  We can stress a defense with; the run, short throws, medium throws.  There is zero threat deep, or to the outside of the field.

 

TL:DR  1 single player, a legit #1 WR takes the offense over the top.  Its the only position group on offense where we have no true weapon.

              VS

Rebuilding an ENTIRE DL & SECONDARY.

 

^^forget what we've done in the regular season, it doesn't matter.  We had/have a potential 1 player solution to our PLAYOFF problem.  If it's not DK, then package some of our 10(!!! 10 !!!) picks in the draft/trade market to go make it happen.  We have the best QB in the league, and he has 1 WR, who's in the slot

 

I've been wrong before. If they get DK then I hope I'm wrong again.

Are you really complaining we scored an avg of 28 against 2 of the best defenses in the AFC in the playoffs?  And no 29 was the magic number vs KC.  They hadn’t scored 30 the entire season.  But refs and our defense helped make sure they did nullifying what should have been a win for us with 29.  Same Chiefs team was down 34-0 at one point the next game.

Yes as i stated i would prefer to give up what i had hoped to be a much higher 2nd rounder that is not the reality i know and so not worth going on about. I don't though believe he will garner the 30th pick straight up, small detail being what his contract demands are versus the value that a 5 year cost controlled gives the team who controls it. All this doesn't matter if the 30th pick is not a blue chip i concede, but it ain't so cut and dried as you make it out to be.

Daniel Jeremiah reported today on Pat McAfee that everyone around the league believes he's going to New England:

 

DK has adamantly stated he doesn't want to go there. And it's a cold weather team.

 

But the problem we could run into is if Seattle decides they don't care what DK wants and New England decides they'll give up a 2nd for him, even if there's no guarantee they'll be able to keep him beyond this year. And with 125m in cap space, they may feel they can offer him a massive, overpay contract that can get him to change his mind.

 

Their 2nd is practically a 1st and our 2nd's are practically 3rd's. We'd have to give up our 1st to get him and there's no way in hell we'd do that if he's not interested in signing a long term deal.

It's the Pats that are putting that out there. They are trying to create a sense of inevitability. They have mucho cap space and no where to spend it. They amassed a bunch fo space and picks in a bad draft and FA class and need to create a contending roster in a single offseason. Vrabel promised it and Craft is demanding it.

They'll have to overpay for people to come there. But with 125m - that won't be a problem for them.

 

DK Metcalf might want a contender and a warm weather climate. But if they offer him a contract that tops Justin Jefferson as the highest paid WR in NFL History? That might change things...

Hopkins wanted to go to a contender too and he signed with the 7-10 Titans because they offered more money.  Seattle not willing to pay him over $30m a year on the next extension is the reason he's leaving Seattle.  I think the money in the new contract will take precedence over the weather or chances of signing with a contender.  The Raiders make a lot of sense as Carroll might want to reunite with Metcalf too.  They're 2nd rounder is pick #37 and that's might be all it takes to acquire him.  Who knows what the relationship is between Geno and Metcalf is though.

Contender.

 

Really a bogus term when it comes to these guys. Why do the phins land so many FA’s? Money, taxes and weather.  Once the checkbook opens, all this “contender” talk is just that…talk.

 

If DK was really all about winning the Patriots and Raiders wouldn’t be mentioned. Chargers would be closer, but an outlier as they haven’t proven themselves.  Steelers? Without a starting QB at the moment they aren’t contenders either.  If it’s Wilson or Fields again, not high on the contenders list other than having a competent HC.

 

Money is important and he’ll land a big contract. Is winning as important as he says it is??
