Nobody is forcing them to play football for an upstart league that is making no cash flow. They are lucky they get paid anything. Most people PAY to play sports. These guys are already guaranteed a minimum of $55k per year. That's not getting you rich, but for an upstart league making no money, it is decent.

Do you hear yourself and how contradictory your first sentence is compared to the rest?! They're literally saying we're not going to play if you don't treat us at a level of these specific standards.

They're literally saying they are willing to not play...nobody is forcing them and they're saying they won't play in these conditions...like seriously dude, seriously with this?!

So, they will get their wish! The league will fold and they can go back to Starbucks. Happy day for them!

Do you realize how insane it is for people in terms of affording stuff, especially younger people... I'm not talking food, but like owning a house without previous equity to put on a down payment...do you have any idea how much rent has gone up in the last 5 years? You can't get a car loan under like some wild number now without a solid down payment, plus the car's crazy expensive.

The UFL not being able to afford to pay fair wages and benefits because the league could clearly not secure enough funding to ensure proper payment and protections...there potentially never should have been a league. They're very likely being intentionally exploited, and you're not even willing to entertain that extremely likely situation. It's like the NFLPA exists for literally no reason

Money is part off the issue, but health insurance coverage is a big thing. Imagine you get injured in a game late in the season and your heath coverage ends with the season? Your surgery and rehab is out of your pocket. That's BS.

Wouldn't workers comp cover that?

I think the compensation is fair (55k for basically four months) but not having full year health insurance is bullcrap considering they play tackle football.  If you at least can't give your players that then you shouldn't have a league to begin with.

as a business with little resources and a bleak future, they aren't going to pay for that.  players understood this before they signed up.

it's wild that each team carries 3 QBs.

If they can't even guarantee basic health insurance for a year than it was stupid to even start the league in the first place.

did they guarantee it before these guys signed their contracts?

same as any contract.  if you willfully signed a contact that does not include health insurance coverage then it's harder to bargain for it after the fact.

Do they all sign one year deals?  Is it a per game contract?  Can they move back and forth between the NFL?  Do they cover living expenses?  Do they pay union dues?

they are 1 year contracts.  the contract terminates if they sign with an NFL team.  if they go back to the UFL, their former team owns their rights.

they have a union, so there are dues no doubt.   there is a $400 a week and $55 ad day voucher for housing and food, respectively. there is a 401K plan.

none really relevant to the topic of  health insurance.  but the answer to "did you sign a contract that included year round health insurance?", the clear answer is "no"....

True.  You'd think as a league though the way to attract viewers is to have the best players possible.  Not sure how many players don't join the league because not many seasonable jobs give you health care coverage.  It'll be interesting to see the details of the next CBA.

Those are in the NFL.

UFL gets the best of what's leftover.  Guys will join if they want to be on TV playing pro football.

players certainly had the opportunity to voice their demand for year round health insurance before they agreed not to receive it by written contract.

I meant the best players possible that aren't in the NFL.

I believe that's what they get---the best ones who still want to play for money anyway.  No one is going into the UFL or any of the phones leagues that preceded it for money.

I'm in favor of the strike. It's been taking ages to get my fries at my local fast food place and the manager said they're having trouble finding enough employees to keep up.

To protest, I'm not going to rewind my tapes before returning them to Blockbuster.  If DVD users don't need to rewind their disks, why do I have to rewind my tapes?
