In my universe, being clutch includes winning the game.

And no game is decided on one play alone.

That wasn’t the only drive that came up empty.

EDIT:

1.  All I see from you is more excuses.

2. I’ve been a Bills fan since before internet trolls even existed.

Just because you’re incapable of admitting that Josh Allen isn’t perfect, don’t spin it around on me.

3. I love you like effin crazy.

Was Mahomes clutch in the AFC Championship game?  I mean he DID get the win, but he also only drove his team down for what ended up being a game deciding FIELD GOAL and left Buffalo loads of time on the clock to go down and win the game.  He failed to get his team into the end zone, taking a bad sack and throwing back to back incompletions before settling for the field goad try.  What if KC's defense would have let Buffalo get into the end zone to win the game?  Would we be criticizing Mahomes for not stepping up in the biggest of moments?  I don't think so.  Double standard and a different narrative.

I’m not comparing Josh Allen to Patrick Mahomes.

And if you’re really going to open a discussion comparing which of those two is more clutch, then it will be a quick one.

There is no double standard and there is no narrative.

It’s this simple:

Josh Allen has zero Super Bowl appearances, let alone wins.  Mahomes has a lot more … of both.

Tom Brady is considered clutch because:

  • Adam Vinatieri made 3 Field Goals
  • Pete Carroll called a pass instead of a run
  • Julian Edelman made an inexplicable grab after Kyle Shannahan had a meltdown play calling
  • The Rams scored 3 points
  • The Chiefs offensive line was absolutely man handled

Josh is not considered clutch because:

  • 13 seconds
  • Bass missing a FG
  • Kincaid dropping the ball on a play where no other QB even gets a throw off.
  • Under thrown TD pass 2023 vs KC

Narratives are interesting...

You’re referring to the play where his LT got blown up by Chris Jones, and got hit while throwing? Sure, under thrown. I’m immune to 300+ pound men impacting my ability to throw too…

You must have lost your mind...Allen has produced in the clutch far more than hasn't.

Yup.

He sounds like one of the really ignorant talking heads, like Shannon Sharpe, who said that the Bills are not good in the playoffs because 'for every TD Allen throws, he throws an interception that leads to an opponent's touchdown'. No shi#, he actually said that on First Take this season.

Literally zero basis in reality, just like the post you rightfully rip apart.

But Shannon Sharpe is an ignoramus of the worst caliber.  Why a Bills fan  would spout such ignorant nonsense is beyond me...

about one of the most clutch quarterbacks I have ever seen play in the NFL. The Bills are almost never out of a game with Allen. And I don't think I am being a homer saying that.

After 13 Seconds I'll never question Mahome's "clutchness" again.  The go ahead drive.  The perfectly executed two plays to get the ball down the field in 11 seconds for the game tying field goal, and then orchestrating another 70 yard drive for the OT winner was clutch.

In the last two playoff games, despite it being incredibly unfair to Josh because he carried us to that spot in the first place.  We did have the ball down 3 with a little over three minutes left that resulted in zero points both times.  Bass and Kincaid are the scapegoats but better decisions by Allen may have led to not needing those two to step up.  It seems like an unfair criticism but heavy is the head who wears the crown.

Allen's throw in the face of that all out KC blitz in the championship game was the definition of being clutch.  Had Kincaid caught that pass, and it was a very catchable ball, all we would have heard was what an amazing and clutch throw Allen made on 4th down to keep that drive alive.

And the previous season in the Divisional Playoff game while Jones caused Allen to miss the TD throw that late 4th quarter drive was also the very definition of clutch on Allen's part.  Taking up most of the 2nd half of the 4th quarter Allen drove the Bills down to easy FG range to tie the game and possibly force OT with less then 2 minutes left only to see the FG missed.

People who claim Allen has not been clutch in the playoffs are not only wrong but IMO are not Bills fans but trolls.

It was a fantastic throw and Kincaid should have caught it. But the protection call before the play was wrong, which left him exposed. That's being exceptionally harsh, I know, as the Chiefs brought something out of the playbook they had never used before, and Josh almost made something out of nothing due to his physical talent. But it went wrong from the call on the line.

In other words Allen was clutch in a playoff game on the road where he was facing the best defensive coach in football with a top 5 defense.

This offense is a version of the Sean Payton offense he ran in N.O. correct?  In Drew Brees 15 seasons he had 7 seasons of 70+ % completion rating and 4 more over 67%.   If we aren't force feeding a #1 WR, then I would like, since its his 2nd season in this offense, then he should make a huge jump in Completion %.

I actually took a little and pondered this. I think where I'm at is I wouldn't mind his completion % staying the same or even dropping if it means they were pushing the ball down the field a bit more and doing less of those line of scrimmage outside screens that barely work and set is behind the chains. This would also open things up more in the running game both for the RBs and Allen, as well as open things in the seems and intermediate for Knox/Kincaid.

This would also likely mean they found a WR that can win and get some separation on the outside or Coleman stepped up and is coming into his own.

Im sure Brees had bad games that brought his down. One issue with Josh is he can't keep having those games every year that hurt him like that. Consistency is what we need more of at this stage of is career.

Josh isn't the kind of precision pocket passer Brees was. He more than makes up for that with how he evades the pocket, impovisizes plays, his rocket arm, and rushing ability. But he's never going to be a Brady, Manning, Brees type high completion percentage guy. He takes more chances than they did and isn't quite as accurate.

After 13 seconds no one should question Allen's clutchness again either.  It absolutely should work both ways.  It feels like in order to play even better in the bigger moments, he's just going to have to block for himself, catch his own passes, and score every touchdown.  Heavy is the head who wears the crown 100%...

Let's not get hyperbolic about the lack of weapons around him.  He has one of the best o-line's in football, a decent running back trio, two above average Tight Ends, and Shakir (okay, they might want to work on WR).  I don't question his clutchness factor but I do question his decision making at times late in games or overtime.
