True but Mario also had Hughes on the opposite side which sure didn't hurt any ! The year or so that Schwartz had those guys when they led the league in sacks and i believe each of those 2 had double digit years was a D i wish we had now, there would be no stopping this team with that D And Josh at the wheel !! That said Schobel was one of my favorites because like Kyle Williams he could have easily demanded a trade the Bills would have had to give it to him but he was a Bills kind of guy just put his hard hat on every week and went to work and lead by example . Top 5 were B. Williams - 45.5 sacks C. Bennett - 52.5 P. Hanson - 61.5 A. Schobel - 78.0 Bruce - 171 - but should have been able to finish his career in B/lo and get all 200 Absolutely foolish move by the team !! Mario 43 in 4 years Edited 3 hours ago by T master 1 Quote
ChevyVanMiller Posted 3 hours ago Posted 3 hours ago Not that this is an answer to the question posed, but I always thought it ironic that the guy who actually played on the opposite end of the line from Bruce, Leon Seals, had the nickname “Dr. Sack.” Here he was playing across from the man who would become the NFL‘s all-time sack leader and he almost never got to the QB. Yet he was the one that had that nickname. Of course, my buddies and I at the time took to calling him “Dr. Suck.” Seemed far more apropos. Quote

I was thinking about and realized that outside of Bruce and Hughes, the cupboard has been pretty bare at RE. The LE and ROLB (Paup) positions have fated much better overall. Schobel in terms of long term, as was here for 9 seasons. Yet Mario was probably a better pure pass rusher but only here for 4 years and one of those years he was miscast as an OLB. Quote

But Mario's first 3 years in Buffalo were better than Schobel's best three years. If the question is who was the best rusher at their peak after Bruce, it's Mario Williams. Peak Mario was the best Bills player of the drought era (talking pure drought so excluding those who played on the last playoff team pre-drought and then into the drought). Did you miss the Kyle Orton year? Quote

DapperCam Posted 2 hours ago Posted 2 hours ago Schobel and Williams were both great. Flip a coin IMO. Quote

Mango Posted 1 hour ago Posted 1 hour ago 2 hours ago, Spiderweb said: Yes, it was definitely based on overall production and length of service. Mario got ruined by Rex Ryan, who used Mario to drop into coverage? I recall how upset he was with the way Ryan used him. Mario Williams was a better football player, pass rusher, and Buffalo Bill than Aaron Schobel could have dreamed of being. And that isn't even throwing any shade at Schobel, he was a good pass rusher. But even with "longevity" isn't even close. If the question was, after Bruce what pass rusher belongs on the Bills Ring of Honor/Wall of Fame, then sure it is Aaron Schobel. Quote

Schobel only had double digit sacks 4 of 9 years and only once did he do it back to back. He was nice player on some not very great teams. Good dude, good teammate, I think his career seems a bit elevated because he was one of a few bright spots often rooting for a few players to succeed because the there wasn't much of a team to root for.
