We got a 5th back though didn't we? It was late third value at best. Plus they may well want Alexander off the books. I don't think he'd cost a 2nd straight up. I think you could definitely get something back.

Oh did we get a 5th back...for some reason I thought we just sent the 3rd.  Well then maybe your proposal would work.  Either way, I would be all for it from our side if the Packers would bite.  To be fair though, I don't know his contract numbers look like in a trade, but draft pick comp vs player value is there if we can handle the cap impact.

I'm all about getting a top tier CB opposite of Benford.  It's been our downfall in the playoffs, IMO.

1 injury to Benford and our boundary corners are pedestrian at best.

I like Alexander's fit into our scheme alot, and he's a true elite corner....when healthy.  There are other options in FA, that aren't his caliber that I'd still be plenty happy with.

In this hypothetical, I'd give our original 2nd and Elam, for him and a 4th or early 5th.

Getting rid of Elams contract would be a huge win, albeit unlikely.

He counts as $17m on the cap in 2025 and $18m in 2026 but not a penny of that is guaranteed so from a leverage position in negotiations the team has it all really. The deal to be done in my view is "we will rework the deal give you the $35m you currently have unguaranteed over the next two years but guarantee most of it, pay you $20-25m up front and spread the cap hit for us over 4 years with two of them void and you still hit FA again age 30 with a chance to get one more decent payday." No negotiation in the NFL is ever "easy" but this one is way closer to the easy end than most.

This would work.  Ideally Elam is off the books/included in trade, as I posted above.

That would help alleviate some cap $ this year and ability to draft a corner late that wouldn't get lost in the numbers/cuts.

I don’t see any way a trade happens without a new deal being in place.  That notwithstanding, Corners age like milk.  They can go from elite to washed almost overnight.  If GB’s willing to move him, there’s probably a reason.

Preferably rd 4 or later, given Beanes track record, Taron, Benford, Wallace,  Dane. Man I wish Tre stayed healthy ugh

I think Beane's track record with late round CBs has been somewhat oversold. Our best CB in the McDermott era was of course White who was a 1st rounder. Benford is obviously the big late round success story. Wallace and Jackson were replacement level. A bunch of other CBs we drafted in the late rounds ended up just training camp fodder.

Just to be clear I'm not criticizing Beane's picks in those late rounds - objectively the CB value he's found there has been amazing, probably better than any team in the NFL. But if this team wants to find a high level outside CB their best bet is still an early round draft pick. I for one am done with the Wallaces and Jacksons of the NFL world because inevitably they become a massive vulnerability that you can't hide in the playoffs. And one success story in Benford over a 7 year period doesn't mean you can exclusively rely on that strategy.

I'll say this - I am more interested in adding a top talent to the secondary than I am to the DL this offseason, because I think that was our biggest problem vs KC. So of all the trades floated so far this one intrigues me the most. I just don't trust Alexander's ability to stay on the field. He's averaged 8.5 games played per season over the past 4 years so he's basically been missing half a season every year. To take on a risk like that I wouldn't want to part with more than a 4th regardless of where the money ends up landing. And Benford has injury problems of his own so it would be a really shaky duo.

If only we had a couple All-Pros in the secondary vs KC in the playoffs one of these years.

I'm surprised he is only 28. Depends on price. But I'd consider moving one of our late 2nds for him if we could get a mid round pick back. Say send #62, swap #131 for #123 and get #160.

That makes him worth high round 3 overall value. That feels fair.

for a round 3 this would be a yes.  Would give the Bills a nice CB pairing for a few years.  We could also draft someone in the 4th.  Although we don't have  a 3 this year, perhaps they'd take next years :)

Funny enough we've only had an above average outside CB on the field vs KC in the playoffs once. White and Benford collectively have missed our past three playoff matchups. I think getting two high level CBs on the field in combination with a disciplined contain rush is the best avenue to forcing more than two punts for the first time ever.

I’m sure that game was a stellar defensive performance lol

Luckily we'll never again have to contend with a KC offense that has Tyreek Hill and Travis Kelce in their prime. Back then a ferocious pass rush was the only way to slow them down. These days the script has changed. Now you stop them by making Mahomes hold the ball and compressing the pocket around him.

He's been healthy for just 34 games over the past 4 years. According to OTC the trading team gets a $17.5M cap charge. Presumably an extension would be part of the deal to reduce the hit but it's still a big risk for an injury prone player.

Yes, and he's only played 17 games in the last 2 year.

While 28 is not generally considered old, Alexander will be entering his 8th season so his odometer is a bit higher than most players his age.

Personally, I pass.

Hyde was a Safety, and Douglas gave Buffalo half a good regular season before falling off a cliff in January of 2024.

I'd check if GB did regular maintenance/oil changes before pulling the trigger
