The scheme is an issue if they can't get pressure similar to Philadelphia

That's not at all what he said, he was saying that people got the job wrong of the new defensive assistant, who would be working with the DLine and not adding man stuff to the DBs

People act like we play 90% zone 10% man lol

 

We've been in the upper third of the league in third down man defense the last couple years.. McDermott loves cover one man on third down in passing situations 

 

We probably also finished the year playing around 40% man coverage all around towards the playoffs.. it's not like we sit in a soft Tampa two 85% of the game

He also straight up talks about evolving his defense and being visonary to attack modern offenses

yep and the best part was it wasn't hidden in code or anything he said it right out.  

 

People hear what they want to hear.

 

Man defense is this years number 1 wr.  They are just never going to shut up about it as if its some magic thing.  

 

Its fascinating watching people twist things into something they can complain about.

The only Magic needs to happen with our DL, because its not even close to being what we need.

One thing McDermott said that no one has mentioned is they talked Speed on the Defense.  But he said speed + small = no. He wants power, he wants size plus speed.

He has directly mentioned the Defensive line each time he has spoken.  He even went as far as saying the best teams he has been on had a good qb, oline and dline.  Then he said we have the qb and o line.

 

They are going to invest in the D line this year I am just not sure which way they go about it at the moment.

Against KC the problem was too much man rather than not enough of it.

Sometimes the timing of the calls is as important as the calls themselves 

 

His timing was certainly off

The problem against KC was not getting pressure on the Mahomes.  I don't know the pressure rates exactly from the KC game, but they looked worse then the mediocre stats outlined below.

Mahomes was getting it out in 1.7 seconds. It wasn't pressure that was the issue it was coverage.

A lot of fans are taking the wrong message away from our loss and the Eagles Super Bowl win. My concern is that Beane is one of those fans.

The biggest problem in our defensive backfield was losing Benford early and having to replace him with 15-yard-cushion-Elam

Eagles literally played mostly zone. And ran a lot of the same coverages. We don’t lose because of zone.
 

It’s not how I like to play defense but zone does work and it’s played the majority of the time by all defenses.

I personally watched every snap of Eagles defense up until 34-0. They were in off coverage the majority of the game.

 

They just ran their zone very well and Mahomes had no chance to improvise due to the rush. Vs Buffalo we always allow Mahomes to make plays, either with his legs or by extending plays.

 

The Eagles literally ran a lot of what we do, Cooper Dejean in the Taron Johnson role. This year though we ran a lot more man vs KC, same results.
