Major takeaways - Cook and the Bills are not close in their discussions. Beane saying directly they "aren't on the same page" is telling. Von is 100% going to be cut as expected.

Beane said Ron Rivera called him up and told him he was going to coach at the collegiate level. Sounded like the two were on good terms. Wasn’t Rivera HC of the Commanders the year JD McKissic reneged on the Bills and stayed with Washington?

I wouldn't be surprised if Von Miller took another pay cut to stay with the team.

Why wouldn't we release him to get Younger? This draft is loaded on the dline. Josiah Stewart for example in Rd 2 should be a great pick. Joyner the de from Minnesota in Rd 4-6 is intriguing etc

Agreed. I think it's way more likely Von would rather just stay with a contending team and play a smaller role. His contract is always going to be viewed poorly because of the injury and drop-off in effectiveness, but at this point in his career, he's not a bad rotational edge by any means. Just not the guy we initially signed up for. I'd love for his snaps to go to younger players from the draft, but I think it's logical to expect he could very likely be back.

Hope it happens, I thought he did some good things this season. Marino had him at 6 sacks and 30 something QB pressures on a low snap count. It is concerning he only played around 20% of the snaps against KC in the AFCCG. That usually doesn’t bode well.

If he couldn't help in the playoffs then it's time to move on

I’m not advocating but another paycut would allow them to save money on the cap this year while cutting him next year is much more palatable on the dead cap.  He did slice his salary by 50% last year so getting back down to that 8-9 million number initially saves the Bills like 12-14 million

Nah that’s Beane essentially saying we’ll have him back for the right price coupled with McDermott saying Bishop ideally is the starter

I think they’re going to up’s grade at “DE2,” try to bring Smoot back as DE3/4,  and tell whichever of AJE/Miller takes their terms first that they can stay.  The other goes.  Those two are probably one yea le players here at this pint,  anyhow.

what is Doyle’s story?

I do miss having a guy like Nick O’Leary, so the announcers can point out that he is jack Nicklaus’s grandson!

I like Stewart, but how many small edge rushers is it wise to have?  If they ran a 3-4, Stewart could be interesting as on OLB, but in their 4-3 I would think they could keep either Stewart or Javon Solomon but probably not both.  The defense as a whole is pretty light with Oliver a small DT, Bernard and Milano smaller LBs and they play nickel most of the time with small but tough Taron Johnson on the field.

I am not saying that Stwart can’t play in the NFL, but I think having too many players that are small for their positions would be a problem.

I believe he was and even at the time Beane went out of his way saying he didn't blame the Commanders leadership...it was JD's agent/advisors.

Basically how I remember it, we made an offer and Washington did at the same time at a lower price. MCKissic has told his agents he wanted to stay in Washington, so they withheld the Commanders offer until he had agreed to Buffalo's deal verbally. Agent tried for the better payday rather than clients wishes. Once MCKissic found out about the Commanders offer he flipped to that as it was his preferred place all along. Wasn't the Commanders trying to swoop in.

Retiring due to his injuries, I remember he was a 5th round pick that everyone seemed to love. Had a touchdown in the perfect game against NE.

Have to remember, for years that's all we had here. It was the guys like Fred Jackson that started at Coe and worked hard to get to where he was. The spunky punter rising to the face of the media guide. Stuff like that was all we had.

The Hamlin story was awesome while it happened and I'm thankful it turned out the way it did. But it does get aggravating hearing about it and seeing every time he does something on the field they have to launch into the story again even years later. My God, let the kid move on in life.

Also, wasn't it Doyle that played through the injury (ACL tear?) in the Miami game where we lost everyone else to heat stroke? He toughed it out on one leg? That's what I think people like him for.

Not actually a pay cut. More like returning money he stole.
