Now we just need to get Cook at around $12m AAV, Bernard at around $10m AAV, Rousseau at around $23m AAV and Benford around $21m AAV.

Get all these deals done and that frees up close to $20m from this years cap, extend Josh to an additional 4 years $245m and that will free up another $12m

When I posted there were no threads; noe there are four after I post, lol.

I'm fine with my thread being rolled into yours. I think they all popped up at the same time. Because, first.

I have to wonder if Bernard is going to get a 2nd contract.

Not sure it's the right move.

He makes plays and he's the leader of the defense.   If you don't extend him then its just another player that you have to replace, specially considering that once Milano's contract ends after the 2026 season that he probably won't be retained unless he comes in at a bargain deal, that would very likely mean you have two guys to replace.

If they can get Bernard on a good deal I'd keep him.

Well done. This means he has to hit certain targets to get $15 million a year. Can't complain as he's Josh's most reliable target and this is not foolish money.

Hard pass on Rousseau and Benford at those numbers. If I'm paying a DE that money, he better be a game-changer like Watt, Crosby, Hendrickson, or even Parsons. Rousseau is a a guy you want as your #2.

So Shakir is worth $15 mill a season and Cook isn't LOL.

Shakir has 1443 yards and 6 TDs the last 2 season on 148 touches.

Cook has 2834 yards and 24 TDs the last 2 season on 520 touches, has made 2 Pro Bowls and was just voted to the NFL top 101 players by PFF.

People who want to trade Cook instead of extending his contract need to re-think their priorities.

I'm glad our management is finally investing in our drafted  and developed skill players.  It's long overdue.

Agree on Rousseau and Benford.  Not certain I'd certain I'd want to go there yet on the other two.

Read an article yesterday how Cook is asking to be paid like the elite, but he is on the field at a much lower percentage than these others.  Rarely does he play on 3rd down.

I thought he would get closer to $18 a year, so $15 is a steal.  I think he continues to be a 900-1100 yard receiver with high catch rate and great YAC.  Exactly the wrinkle we need in this offense.

One plays running back and one plays WR.

This is a good deal. That’s the sweet spot for a Shakir. Glad they made it work.

Can't happen, you can't get guys like Crosby, Garrett or Parsons for that amount of money.   Parsons will end up signing somewhere around $33M AAV.

That's the going rate for people of Rousseau's and Benford's quality what I suggested above.   Rousseau is an above average ascending starting DE, that's what they cost.  Benford's level of play has been near elite and that's what they cost.   You don't get rid of your two most valuable defenders who are young and ascending because you don't want to pay the going rates.

The salary cap has exploded the past 2 years by $50M and 4 years from now it will be up somewhere between $100 - $130 M more.     Inflation baby!!

Didn't you and I have some arguments regarding Spencer Brown?   You said $17M a year was way too much, I said that it wasn't.  Turns out that you were right that $17M was what he was worth, he really is worth closer to $20M AAV.
