Needed to start locking up these guys going into 4th year.  Shakir was high on my list.  He's a really good slot WR, no reason why he couldn't have a Christian Kirk like 2022 season.

Just looked at Shakir on Spotrac yesterday. They had him at $19+ so this is good. 

 

Imo Cook is too explosive a player to let go. I think he comes in at $12m. I recall his brother got burned on his career earnings, so I'm sure he's influencing James to get it now, and a lot

Shakir has 1443 yards and 6 TDs the last 2 season on 148 touches.

Cook has 2834 yards and 24 TDs the last 2 season on 520 touches, has made 2 Pro Bowls and was just voted to the NFL top 101 players by PFF.  

 

People who want to trade Cook instead of extending his contract need to re-think their priorities.  

 

I'm glad our management is finally investing in our drafted  and developed skill players.  It's long overdue.

Just like the RB is dependent on the OL, the WR is dependent on the OL and the QB delivering a catchable ball. When offenses became pass heavy, WR contracts went up while RB contracts stayed the same. They didn’t inflate with the salary cap. Now, you’ve got a disproportionate value between RBs and WRs where Gabe freaking Davis makes more than Saquon Barkley and King Henry.
 

Sure, the Ravens can roll with Justice Hill and be fine in the rushing game, but Hill ain’t Henry. Ditto for Kenny Gainwell and Barkley. Those are high end RBs, but their importance to the team is not reflected in their salary. Saquon was just an MVP candidate and won offensive player of the year. There aren’t many other RBs who could produce at his level. Same argument could be used for WRs, but their importance in a passing league has inflated with the cap. As more and more NFL WRs come out of the draft ready to go, I would expect for WR contracts to regress. Supply and demand.

Play Shakir as the Z.  Make him a 100 catch wr.  Look to add speed in the middle rounds.  Tez Johnson is intriguing.  Maybe draft Shakir’s clone Noel from Arizona St.  That kid plays a-lot like him.
