You just aren't being realistic about your expectations.  Groot was an Elite NFL DE when it comes to run Defense and a B-B+ pass rusher.  He had 8 sacks, 16 TFLs, 3 Forced Fumbles, 1 Fumble Recovery and 3 Passes Defensed.

 

If he gets paid $22m AAV, that would translate to about 8% of the 2025 CAP.  % of the CAP at signing is really what we need to look at when it comes to these contracts and lucky for us, that's easy to find:

If Groot signed a contract for $22m AAV, he'd be 15th in the NFL in terms of Edge Rusher contracts at signing when it comes to % of the CAP.  He'd be just behind Harold Landry and just ahead of Joey Bosa.

There was 27 WRs last season costing their teams $15 mill or more in cap.  Only one of the 27 produced 1400+ yards and only 3 produced 1250 yards.  Only 4 of the 27 produced double digits in TDs.  That doesn't seem like a good allocation of limited cap space.

I think a good way to determine bang for the buck might be to see what happens to the team when the #1 WR's aren't there.  Josh and the Bills are quite the exception when it comes to "spreading the ball around".  It would be disastrous for most teams.

Hard to know.  If it is, then they lack the necessary depth at WR and RB to survive.  Overpaying a No. 1 receiver is a good way not to be able to afford adequate depth.

I just think we're just in a unique situation, because of Josh Allen.  Houston went in with great depth, but fell apart even with that crazy good depth, because of injuries.  The league is changing to more balls thrown at or near the LOS though, so it's a tough call.  For that reason, I'd agree that overspending on a #1 WR might be a bad decision, esp in our particular case.

Really, if anyone can run behind a great Oline, why was Davis a yard a carry less (3.9) then Cook (4.9)? 

 

Why then in the playoffs did Cook rush the ball 53 times to Davis' 7 when during the regular season Davis received about 50% of the carries Cook received? (Cook 207 to Davis 113).

 

I don't think I'm the one who is off base here.
