Coleman had more yards and TD's in his first 8 games than Diggs had in his last 8 games.  I saw enough from Coleman to think there's plenty there to work with.  No he didn't look great post injury but he looked pretty good before the injury and I'd sign up for 17 games of that in season 2.

Echoing Beane's comments from the post season press conference. They are clearly not happy with how he handled and came back from the injury.

Pretty concerning.

Tis.

I guess neither side wants to be spewing details in a public fight, but all of us would like to know wtf happened here.

Looked like Coleman was rolling.

Then injury.

THEN INVISIBLE!!!

What exactly was the deal here? The implication is that Coleman was a lazy slacker on a Championship bound team!
Could not look any worse.

As a player, you want frank transparency from your coach and what it is that they expect out of you and this is a way to motivate him.

I expect Keon to work his ass off, along with Kincaid and Bishop and all have improved years.

There is some really good talent there, they just need to go out there and realize their potential.

There were things I saw on the field in those last few games that I just assumed all Bills fans saw. It's no use getting into it now. But suffice it to say that the Bills should expect Keon to battle on the outside consistently. In fact he has to in order to be successful in the NFL. I sensed some frustration, and most definitely a lack of physicality to fight for jump ball position at times that were really frustrating. He's got to be more consistent.

Coach translation re Keon:

He’s the type of personality that needs you to constantly press him and won’t pout if you do.  Even publicly.

Praising him does him no favors.  He’s got a bit of an ego.  They’re just keeping that in check.

I think that head tap on the jump ball vs the Jets ****ed them off.  Nip the immaturity in the bud and this kid will take off.

This is nothing.

I’m sure they told him in exit meetings you can be special.  But …. We need this, this, and that.

Coleman was drafted to be a long-term WR2, never the WR1 we all thought (and think) we need.  Drafting at the end of the first round, the options were limited.  I think the Bills made a mistake by undervaluing Xavier Worthy, who turned out to be far better than many expected.  So yeah, it was a mistake not to grab Worthy when they had the chance.  But as for Coleman, maybe he does need to show more dedication to physical training, to tape study, to understanding the offense, and to better two-way communication with Josh.  The fact remains that Worthy is a small guy and Coleman is not.  You'd think it would be Worthy who was more likely to be injured, but a wrist is a vulnerable point for everyone.  It could still turn out that Worthy gets broken in two by some throwback safety, and that Coleman becomes a productive and reliable weapon.  Time will tell.

All that said, it wasn't Coleman or any other receiver that kept the Bills out of the SB.  It was the lack of depth and capability among the DBs.  And THAT was due to Beane trying to play whackamole with all the gaps that appeared in his roster a year ago.  He patched together what might have been an adequate secondary, but when a couple of starters went down, the weakness appeared.

This isn’t surprising. Coleman wasn’t very good. That is especially true after he came back from an injury. The Bills needed him to be an immediate contributor and one of the focuses of the offense. Instead, he was a role player with some positive flashes. He caught 1/2 of the balls thrown his way and had less separation than every WR in football. It is concerning. It’s not time to pull the plug. At the same time, I bet that if they could do it all over again, they would have picked a different WR.

It's not like McDermott to call out a player publicly.  If he's tried privately to convey that message to Coleman and it hasn't gotten through, then it's a particularly bad sign that he's resorted to a public comment like that.

I'm sure the words used by McDermott directly to Coleman in private were a bit more colorful than the ones he flashed to the media.

But I'm glad McDermott acknowledged they didn't get enough out of him and he needs to improve. Keon is going to have to earn his role next year.

McD/Beane literally say the same about rookies/2nd year players that they are counting on.

No different than Elam, Kincaid, Bishop, Cook, Ford, Basham, AJE, Bernard.

Motivational tactics, also honest truth.  It's up to these young players to put in the offseason work.

Bernard, Cook, Benford...all recent examples of players who had similar comments made about them and made HUGE improvements...year 1 to 2, and continue to grow.

But for those success stories, you have Basham and Fords of the world, and Elam is the next bust.

AJE and Kincaid look like average players right now.  Kincaid has untapped potential, but as Beane said, Dalton needs to improve his playing strength.

Coleman has a huge spotlight on him, for many reasons.  This offseason for him, Bishop, and Dalton are going to be the difference for our team.  We need them to be the next young "core" to develop into very good starters.

The week before that Dolphins game Coleman was ascending and making big plays. He was playing with a ton of confidence. I don’t know what it was about that Dolphins game (dwindling confidence due to Ramsey locking him up?) but he was never the same afterwards. It started early too, the drop on the goal line that led to an INT. Even if Poyer hadn’t hit him, he would’ve dropped the perfectly thrown long ball as well. Everyone points to the injury in assessing his before and after performance, but the downward slide started with that Fins game as a whole.

Cooper had a bad wrist injury suffered one week into his tenure as a Bill, and went against the doctors suggestion to shut down for the season and tried playing through it

Has it been said what play he injured it on?

That may be true, but he still looked like crap for much of the first half of the season too.

He had that amazing catch vs Seattle but he also had numerous games of dropped balls, poor adjustments and no separation.
