They mentioned the traffic in that piece. That was more than my father had bargained for.  We were about 10 people away from the gate when the crowd started to roar before the inaugural kickoff…….. only to fall silent as Herb Mulkey returned it for a TD. I was disappointed before I ever even got inside!

Beating the Raiders on Monday night (thank you, Ahmad Rashad) is another experience that stands out, but one of my most eye opening experiences at The Ralph was seeing The Rolling Stones about 1975/76? I was a high school kid, and they had bedsheets hanging from the upper bowl with menus  of what kind of things they were marketing. I thought I had stepped thru the looking glass.

Saw the Who with the Clash in the early 80s, that was a pretty good duo for one concert. Think David Johansen was also on the bill.

He was ... Great show.

We were about the 50 yard line and center of the field for the Stones. I was with 3-4 buddies and there was a guy who was alone next to us on the field with a hefty bag full of weed. He rolled joints for hours. He would roll it, hand it to someone to light and then he would take the second hit, and pass it into the crowd. That guy alone burned over a pound of weed that night.

Grateful Dead I think 1993.  During the Sting opener, the crowds busted through the gate right below our noseblood seats.  You could see the ant-colony-like communication spread the word of the breach to the masses on the horizon sending everyone headed our way.  We had a state trooper helicopter hovering at our eye level while the mounties tried in vain to hold off the crowd (which included at least one naked guy) to no avail.

Grateful Dead 4th of July in 86 ... The Dead opened the show followed by Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, then Bob Dylan with Tom Petty's band, then a big jam at the end. I think I'm having a flash back.

Saw Barry Sanders run for 100+ but was out rushed by Kenneth Davis and his 119 yards.

Funniest moment at the Ralph:

Bryan Cox after being ejected, with almost everyone in the stadium shouting in unison, "As*hol*, as he was led down the middle of the field, spitting in fury.

Still very proud of Bills fans for that reaction, that spontaneous unity.

My brother and I had jobs as vendors when the stadium opened.  It was our job to carry trays of beverages up and down the stairs, selling as we went.  The first year I was 17 so I could only sell pop (boy it's good to call it that and not get sneered at), but the next couple of years I could sell beer since the drinking age was 18.  I think I was there for every game the first three years the stadium was open.  The comeback game against the Raiders, when Ahmad Rashad caught the winning TD, after OJ got hurt and wasn't available and after Braxton fumbled to give the Raiders the lead back -- probably the most amazing end of a game I was ever in the stands for.  I also was in the stands behind the Minnesota bench in a late season game in the snow, when both OJ and Chuck Foreman were chasing the lead for rushing TDs.  Someone behind me threw the snowball that hit one of the Vikings (Foreman, I think) in the eye.  It was a great job for a college kid.  I could make pretty good money and watch the Bills and OJ for free.  I only gave up the job because I transferred from UB to Albany to pursue a major not offered in Buffalo.

It must have been 1972 when I saw a game with OJ Simpson and Joe Namath.

My friend’s mom got tickets from her workplace.

Probably not 1972.  The stadium opened in 1973.  I did get to see Namath play there, but his knees were shot by then and he couldn't do much.
