They held firm on Von at 2 years/40M if memory serves me correct. We ended up essentially going 3 years/60M, up to 6 years, and while you can’t predict a torn ACL, they clearly made the right decision on that aging vet still playing at a high level. Jimmy Harris 69 Posted February 23 Posted February 23 I wonder about a team like Minnesota who has their QB of the future already. McCarthy could ferment for another year. O’Connell and Stafford are tight, since the former was the OC in LA during ‘20-‘21. Stafford would provide the missing element at quarterback for a viable Super Bowl run. Minny has $58m in cap space. It serves as a thorn in Detroit’s side, which they wouldn’t mind. (And it would keep his a$$ out of the AFC) Quote
TheFunPolice Posted February 23 Posted February 23 It could just be the problem being a good QB but not being in the AFC Quote

If he is healthier a further year removed from the achillies, fine, but yea it is voluntarily downgrading at Quarterback without any obvious play for how you then upgrade again. I said the same when the Raiders did it with Carr... it is never a good idea. If you can get someone broadly equivalent for cheaper, fine. If you plan to tank, fine (this Rams team is way too good for that). But just willfully going from a tier B Quarteback to a tier C guy for no good reason? Yea that's odd. I understood the Carr thing. I don't mean it made sense, but I understood it. Josh McDaniels did a similar thing in Denver: he shipped Jay Cutler out of town in favor of Kyle Orton (I don't mean the players are the same, but it's the same theme: Mr Big Stuff doesn't want to adapt to the players he has, he wants his own guys.) But McVay traded for Stafford and won a Superbowl with him. So.... Quote
MasterStrategist Posted February 24 Posted February 24 37 year old QB, hefty price tag, who isn't "elite"? I'm sure he'd upgrade alot of "middling" teams...like the Steelers. But this isn't Tom Brady leaving New England to Tampa. I think it would be a huge mistake for anyone to trade for him. This is a negotiation tactic by the Rams. Makes no sense for them to move on either, they have a young/talented team who could easily be in the hunt for a title next year if things go their way. 1 Quote

I think that this is their way of saying... you want that kinda money... go find it and tell them to call us... cause like he literally just turned 37... who is gonna trade away premium picks to sign a 37 year old QB to an enormous multi year contract... and no Cleveland and the Jets dont count... cause we know they totally will LOL ... Pittsburgh seems smarter than that... at least with Russell it wasnt more than 1mm or something reasonible for 1 year... However, Tomlin is on the hot seat.... he may push for it... but in the end when does Pitt commit to just drafting their guy.. and stop kicking the can... This will be interesting to watch play out... desperation causes interesting decisions... Quote

Big Turk Posted February 24 Posted February 24 Rams really lucky they got a gift game clinching INT dropped by SF or else that Stafford trade would have looked really bad. Quote

McVay gets a younger QB to pair with their youth movement on that roster, Miami gets a win-now QB for their aging roster. It would suck because Stafford is still legit when healthy. imo, I don’t think Pittsburgh or any cold weather teams are in serious play. Stafford has played in nice weather/domes his whole career. Other interesting play is Colts. They have run the older established QB carousel multiple times in a row. Rivers, Ryan, Wentz. With Richardson highly questionable to be the guy, it makes sense to save Steichen and try to win a weak division I hope Miami does this. Would be reminiscent of Culpepper. I would be ecstatic Quote
machine gun kelly Posted February 25 Posted February 25 Pittsburgh or Jests makes the most sense. From Stafford standpoint it’s Pitt. They have an overall good team. Quote

Feels like the rams are doing this so that Stafford camp gets a gauge of his real value. He's asking for too much. Like Lamar did 1 Quote

Mike, that’s actually a good idea. Dabs would get the most out of Stafford, and he’s not shot like Rodgers. Quote
