Last two seasons he's played he allowed better than 100 QB rating when targeted which is as bad as Hamlin.  At least Hamlin can tackle.

And yet I bet Hamlin doesn’t sniff that salary. You probably do too

Show me where on the field salary makes Jackson a better player.  Elam makes more than either of them so by your standard he must be pretty good.

Elam makes more because he was a first round pick. He won’t get his salary on the open market next year either, right?

You wanted me to prove you wrong. I did.

If you claiming that you won does it for you by all means take your victory lap.  When you're shuffling the deck chairs on the Titanic no one cares if one is a couple dollars more than the other.  It proves nothing.

Dane makes a lot of sense if they dump Elam as expected. I wouldn’t count on Dane as the 2nd corner on the outside but would be more than comfortable with him as the 3rd.

I mean I wouldn't blame them for kicking the tires.  If they think they've got 2022 Dane might be worth it but 2023 and 2024 Dane has been picked on a lot.  I could be wrong but I'd guess that a younger Hyde and Poyer covered up a lot of the warts and he'd be pretty exposed in our current secondary.

Fair, I didn’t really follow his season at Carolina. I thought that he was pretty decent here and would be good depth. If  they could get him back at $2M or whatever, that’s one less need. If Ingram & Dane are the depth corners I’d feel fine. You can grab the starter opposite Benford in FA or the first couple of rounds.

This all makes complete sense.  My fear would be he ends up on the field in a position like Elam was in.  We're trying to play more man these days and our safeties don't have the range or instincts to help.  By the end of the season I was convinced our pass rush might only be mediocre but our coverage was garbage and the bigger problem.  Add Dane to a good secondary as depth you are probably all right.  Add him to Hamlin, Rapp, Elam, and Lewis and I'm worried.  I'm hoping they do a decent amount of reworking the secondary.

I don’t foresee Hamlin or Elam on the roster.

I think you might be onto something there. With Tre, Po, Micah and Taron you could be limited but fundamentally sound and be a serviceable 5th wheel. With no safeties to help.... it is definitely harder.

Elam is getting a 7th round pick swap at this point at best.

He is approaching negative value now.

If you wanted anything substantial for him, he needed to be traded 2 years ago.

after his rookie year?

Drafting DBs in the first couple of rounds has yielded Elam and Bishop.

Yeah, this regime hasn’t done great with it. I suspect if they have a starting spot open though, they aren’t going to wait until the middle of the draft to fill it. Maybe Barron at 30?
