I couldn’t find a good thread about this topic.

I’ve seen this week talk about Steelers and what they will do at QB between the two QBs they had or sign Rodgers or Darnold.

I think nobody wants Rodgers because he comes with a posse and will want too much money.

Looking at Darnold going to the Steelers—. In 2024 he played in grnerally good weather through the year. His cold city starts was the weekend before thxgvg in Chicago and December in seattle. Neither were below freezing iirc.  Thry went to Green Bay early. They played in nashville and jacksonville and played at his TA in week 1.

I would still have a concern on him playing in cold/ high wind games.

there has been speculation on the Rams trading/ releasing Stafford because of cap reasons.

does the bengals tag Higgins?

I could totally see Darnold to the Stillers... wouldnt it be ironic if the Jests passed on a QB signed him back and he was terrible again...  I keep hearing the water boy in my head... Oh no!!! He sucks again! .... lol

I read something this week that the Steelers were in touch with the Jaguars, inquiring about Trevor Lawrence. How true or not that is TBD. There's going to be a lot of smoke and mirrors for the next couple of months.

proven as false already.

In other news Zach Martin retired today.  The cowboys had two first ballot hall of famers on their line along with travis frederick who was outstanding and couldn't even make a championship game.  All while playing every year in perfect weather conditions and in a division that has had one good team in it over the last decade.

Former Bills Guard/Center Jon Feliciano also retired today.

Raiders are the team I'm watching for Darnold. I'd almost rule the Steelers out as Mike Tomlin is said to prefer a mobile QB especially behind their OL. Daniel Jones may be an option either there or in Indy.

There are enough QB needy teams (and this is before training camp/preseason injuries) that someone will make a run at Rodgers. The question becomes if he wants to play for teams that may not be in competition.

I've also seen the Bengals will likely tag Higgins but the non-exclusive tag is in play.

If he's cut like many expect, Kirk Cousins is likely to be a Brown. Cleveland is broke and due to offset language in his contract, Cousins would be able to sign the same kind of deal Russ Wilson signed with Pittsburgh last off-season. It would also reunite him With his old OC from Minnesota in Stefanski.

The Steelers should keep Fields and put weapons around Fields.  Drat a WR in the 1st round.  See if he can become a QB like Darnold, Mayfield, etc. who do well with another team.  They went 4-1 with him this year (albeit against bad teams).  If he struggles, then trade up next year to draft your guy and you have weapons around the new guy so he hits the ground running (well, passing, but you know what I mean).

Hasn't been Tagged yet - but most believe it's coming.

Tag is 26 million.

Belief is he’s looking for 40 million per.    That’s a lot a money for WR when you have other high school picket guys.

He won't see that. No way no how.

Justin Jefferson is at 35M AAV. I saw the belief is that it's  Chase that is seeking 40M AAV.

If Higgins signs with Cincinnati it will be far below those numbers IMO. Closer to 30 if that. Now if by chance he hits the open market I'd expect that number to go up as high as 32-34M AAV.

As I mentioned in a different thread,

I think WRs or going to be like RBs with high turnover and replacemrnt with low cost vets unless they have multiple facets of what’s wanted such as

1. speed

2 route running all over the field

3 short quickness

4. short separation bursts like on short routes or running with the ball

5 jumping ability

6.catch in traffic

7. hands/ reach  to catch when they aren’t thrown perfectly or catch one handed

8. adjusting routes to cobversgevor how the ball changes in air

many tr rivers might have only a few of these while the perfect one has it all.  Only those perfect receivers should see this high money

i don’t feel Higgins has these all.

The Steelers denied inquiring about Lawrence. They would be stupid to admit it if they had, so the denial means nothing (except that they’re a reasonably competent FO). Maybe they did, maybe they didn’t. No way to know either way. I’ll say this though, they SHOULD be looking into every decent QB who is potentially available.
