how do you feel about this draft now?

2-Keon- I hated the pick at the time.  Keon played decent pre-Poyer hit.  But was almost useless after.  Keon was first player selected Day 2.  So Beane has all night to contemplate that pick and turn down draft picks.

2-Cole - an ok selection.  Hopefully he can make big progress this season.

3- DeWayne big fat F.  2% pass rush win rate is horrendous.  Horrible pick Beane.

4-Ray Davis- finally a solid draft selection.  Ray will be a productive Bill for years.

5- Ed- hardly saw the field- TBD

5–Solomon looks like a good situational pass rusher.  Beanes second decent pick.

6-Tylan - best pick of the draft.  Tylan sounds like a great find!

6-Hardy- undersized, good practice squad depth, return ability.

7- Clayton- potential.

so one lukewarm hit in the first 3 rounds.

Keon was awful in playoffs, and Cole has potential.

Ray, Solomon, and Tylan look like Bills going forward.

All those draft picks, and your 6th round draft pick looks to be best pick.  Way too many whiffs, again.

I rate this draft a D-

Washington had an excellent draft that provided immediate results.  If Beane lays another egg this draft, I doubt he’s here in 3 years

The biggest pre-draft question about Keon Coleman was whether he could separate at the NFL level, with his 4.61 40-yard dash at the NFL Scouting Combine only furthering concerns. His supporters countered that separation knock by touting his contested-catch ability, but he struggled in both areas as a rookie. His inability to separate was clear to the naked eye but also underscored by a number of Next Gen Stats metrics. Meanwhile, Pro Football Focus charted that Coleman received 19 contested targets and caught just seven, giving him a subpar conversion rate of 36.8 percent. Frankly, following a November wrist injury that sidelined him for a month, Coleman struggled to find a connection with Josh Allen on anysort of pass, catching just 10 of his 29 targets over the final seven games (playoffs included).

The rest of the class was pretty unremarkable, though Ray Davis provided some juice in the backfield and Cole Bishop played decent in spot duty at safety, racking up a team-high 10 tackles in the AFC Championship Game.

What I see from that Draft Class is a bunch of guys who the coaching staff refused to put on the field and/or utilize. It seems like the Front Office and the Coaching Office are in two different buildings. Now maybe that’s because the established roster is good enough so as to not need to throw rookies into the fire but I’m guessing the post-season grades would be much better if this year’s class had been drafted by other, more needy, teams.

Too early to write the book on the early picks. I quite liked Bishop at the time (although would rather have had Bullock or Hicks), Coleman and Carter I thought were both reaches.

The two guys I have most excitement about long term are Solomon and Grable. Not sure how Grable gets on the field given our current strength at tackle but even if he ends up a good serviceable swing tackle picked in round 6 that is still a win.

Early returns on a draft are tricky to evaluate. 2022 was a great draft class and only Benford was a productive starter his rookie year.

The Bills had production from Keon and Davis at a good role player level both positive for rookies. Bishop played as a starter at times and towards the end of the season he looked effective esp in the playoffs. Solomon and Grabel also looked solid in limited reps. Carter got snaps too but didn’t make much of an impact despite a strong camp

I loved the SVPG at the time but he never cracked the rotation which is a positive. Then Ulo also never filled the ST niche he was drafted to do.

On early returns I will give this class a B. It’s way too early to tell. But Davis/Keon/Cole look like they can play while Solomon and Grable flashed. But early returns also can’t be much more than a B if they don’t produce as higher end starters either.

It also helps the Bills secured an early 4th this year by trading out last season. Factoring into the return they got.

Do you? Where? Keon started when healthy, Carter was on the field before his injury (the feeling seems to be they brought him back up off IR before he was ready and I wonder if that contributed to the Ciano firing) so the only guy who struggled to get on the field was Bishop and when he did get on the field we saw exactly why he struggled to get on the field. He didn't know his assignments and was a liability in coverage.

Yea it’s a draft with no instant impact players, a couple guys that filled a role. Have the most hope for Bishop, Solomon and Grable going forward.

McDermott had weird comments about Bishop in July about the number one thing for him is being in shape after the break [before camp]. That along with being behind guys like Hamlin and Rapp all year just seems like maybe the Bills didn’t get what they were expecting.

You see, now this just depresses me.........UGH.

I think Coleman will eventually figure it out and turn it on, however, he will never be an outside WR and for our coaching staff to ever put him in that position is just irresponsible and trying to fit a square peg into a round hole.

Davis was by far my favorite pick of the draft......the kid's got charisma, he's got talent, and he's got the makings of being a productive Bills for a long time (at least till his rookie contract runs out).

I still don't know how i feel about Bishop. I think he has the tools, but needs a new tool belt to help him put it all together.........TBD.

And DeWayne?!?..........UGH

You could have looked at the 2022 class and after their rookie years not seen much. Cook was a 2nd round pick and he looked a lot like Davis. Shakir/Elam/Bernard all non factors their rookie seasons. Only Benford came in and played well and he was a solid starter but not elite.

You need 3 years to evaluate a draft. Certainly after year 2 you at least get a more fair picture of the draft class.

Boddrington returned kicks.  Solomon got snaps in too

My guess is that Grable is too talented to keep off the field.  Bills have a strong, deep Oline.  Van Der Mark is a great swing tackle, and he was inactive when Grable was healthy.  Im guessing Grable goes to LG, and Bills OL is massive.  Edwards gets traded for draft pick, or is surprise cut- we save $5million.

I agree with this, however, the thread is about determinations of the 2024 draft, not a "wait and see" projection for what this draft "may" look like 3 years from now.

I mean, my initial evaluation may be wayyyyyyyy off 3 years from now, but that's just what it is........a one-year evaluation of the 2024 draft, not a projection of it 3 years from now, so i stand by my opinion until i see otherwise.

Why cut Edwards? He had a really good year. If I'm taking and anyone off the field and trading them it's Torrence.

Too early to tell and the Bills do have a history of “redshirting guys” for a year before you see the returns on them. I see a draft filled with guys who will have lengthy but maybe not big difference makers type draft.  With that said, that has been the problem with the Bills. Guys who contribute but aren’t impactful when it matters most.

I want to see Bishop after a full offseason under his belt. I think Carter was coming on a bit before his injury. Grable and Davis were solid. Solomon showed flashes and Coleman still is young but Worthy and McConkey doing what they did certainly didn’t help put ease into Bills fans.

I like Edwards too.  Im guessing he gets traded.  I like your idea of trading Torrence.  We have too many talented OL, and thats a good problem.  We have Alec Anderson too.  Not to mention Van Pran, Gourage, and Clayton.  Whomever we cut will get quickly picked up.  So im guessing Bills trade OL between now and end of draft.  Marino likes Edwards too, but stressed that $5 million in savings is a lot
