Bin doors & clasps on overhead bins rather then the old school open bins maybe helped... The absolute tonnage passengers carry-on as pack mules is stunning... Those flying bags would of caused a few problems...

I don't understand what is happening in the world of aviation lately. I flew weekly for 6 years and my biggest worry was if the flight was gonna be delayed.

I just heard that the plane flipped  just before landing. Winds of up to 75. 

5 People hurt, one of them serious.  They were lucky. Video shows the nose of the plane about 25 feet from the gully at the end of the runway where a plane crashed into years ago.

Really struggling to picture how a plane ends up on its back without everyone dying

I'm not taking anything away from the crash yesterday, however, i was on a Delta flight years ago and it was probably the worst plane i've ever been on.........it felt like it was being held together with rad hose and duct tape.

Capitalism is finally catching up to the aviation industry.  All these companies associated with aviation have been printing cash for years now.  There are way too many flights now days all to maximize the bottom line.  There is too much pressure to fly in inclement weather, too many pilots that are being rushed through trainings in order to not have a severe pilot shortage based on how many flights are being flown now, inspections are being overlooked, and overall, this has been years in the making.  It's really not a surprise.  The industry needs an entire overhaul.  They may sound rude or cruel but flying needs to go back to being a privilege.  The number of flights in a day need to be cut in half.  Train inspectors on new standards, inspect every plane, pull out the old planes, increase the pilot standards/flight hours, need to revisit when planes should be grounded, etc.  The speed at which aviation has grown has been a cause for concern for old time aviation experts for over a decade now, and it has all been tied to a bottom like.  The industry went from a luxury industry to a low-cost leader.  Push as many flights as possible out, at the cheapest cost.  Scary when you're dealing with life and death.

my wife and kids were at the airport on a layover when this happened.  she said people were just blankly staring at the tvs, soaking it in.

 

 

it looks like i'll be driving everywhere from now on.

I've had decent luck with Delta, was yours one of the smaller regional jets like the one that crashed?  I did have a USAir flight years ago, remember them?  I think it was just about the same time American Airlines bought them.  It sounded like the roof was trying to come off during the whole flight.

The Delta flight i was on was a big mother international plane that i was taking from Japan. I was supposed to take an Air Canada flight to take me to Toronto but ended up on a Delta and flew into Detroit instead.

 

I had zero confidence in that plane, man........she shook and sputtered and rattled at the rivets.

Some video coming out from another plane waiting to take off. The idiot pilot didnt "flare" the plane for landing AND didnt have the flaps down for landing. S/he just flew into the ground in a misconfigured jet. What basically happens is that a plane gets to about 10 feet above the ground, the pilot raises the nose slightly, cuts power back and the wings stop "flying" and the plane...usually gently...touches down. Im sure sherpa will quibble on the details here, especually being a former Navy guy (as he should), but thats the general idea. What appears to have happened here is that pilot didnt do that and just flew the plane into the ground, snapping the landing gear AND breaking the wing spar, which takes a TON of force to do. You can actually see the whole fuselage buckling and the wing spar snap.

My friend flies the Airbus for Delta and I asked him if they did Airplane lines on the flight deck and he stated “Of course, we do.”
