Don't get me wrong, I get your reservations fully, which is why I said you still draft one early if you sign either of those guys.  I personally don't put a lot of stock in what PFF says, especially with the situation hes been in compounding that further.  Slayton IMHO is certainly better than PFF is giving him credit for and its why he will have suitors too.

I honestly havent seen what Browns market is estimated to be at, I just know he was cheap last year and did nothing to change that this year given he didn't really play much thanks to the injury.  If you are saying  $18M per year for 2 years then yeah, thats gross and I wouldn't be interested either.  But if you are saying $18M for the 2 years, or $9M a season, I would be fine with that because if healthy he is a better WR than a $9M a year guy and he adds an element to the offense we lack.

None the less, signing either of them (or Cooper) needs to accompany drafting someone early still.

I read a story today that Slayton is pry undervalued because his stats suffered from the Giants lack of a passing game and QB

Not really caught up on either guy. Just looking at their production, that's the kind of guy who they could reasonably afford to bring in, it looks like to me.

What particularly do you like about each guy, if you don't mind me asking. I don't know either one well at all.

Hollywood Brown ran a 4.27 40 at his combine, he is a guy who has another gear down field.  He isn't a big WR, but outside of this year when he missed all but 2 regular season games from an injury in camp, he has been relatively durable for a guy his size with only one other season with less than 14 games played.  He is still only 27 years old.

Slayton is quite a bit undervalued IMHO after playing in such a desolate QB wasteland.  He is a former first round pick in 2019 and just been in QB purgatory there in NY.  Not as fast as Brown, but he ran a 4.39 at the combine, still plenty fast.  He has shown to be a big play guy for the Giatns despite the woeful QB play during his career.

I am not saying either guy is coming to Buffalo and becoming a top 10 WR, but both bring an element we are lacking as a downfield threat and would come at an affordable price as well.  I think both will have an opportunity to be the best versions of themselves here with Allen in this offense.

I agree that I don't think Higgins is the ideal #1 receiver for our needs. He is a massive upgrade on what we have on the boundary but he isn't exactly the idea type. He is like a much better version of Gabe Davis. He is clearly a few talent levels above Gabe but in terms of style of player that is what you are getting.

Where I disagree with you is on "he needs a #1 opposite him." As a rookie, playing with a rookie Joe Burrow and backups when Burrow went down he put up 908 yards and 6 TDs as a #1, that was pre-Chase. Then in 2022 the four games Chase missed Higgins stepped up had 2 solid games and two monster games, including a 148 yard day against the Steelers. I actually his production has been held back slightly by being on a team where Chase dominates targets.

I think he will prove himself an a legit #1 receiver wherever he ends up. Probably someone who is 11-15 territory rather than top 10, but a legit #1.

Marques Colston. Not Peerless though. Not even close.

Both did well with a true stud #1 opposite them.  Once Price went to Atlanta to be a #1, his numbers tanked.  I feel the exact same is going to happen with Higgins.

And don't we want a guy with speed?  4.54 - 4.59 isn't the speed we need. At his best 4.54 isn't a huge difference between Colemans 4.61, and At worse 4.59 is virtually no real difference then 4.61.

Agree. That is a good comparison.

I think Price just got paid and went to a situation where as dynamic as Vick was with his legs in Atlanta he was not a great passer. So Price was just not in a system that was gonna produce numbers esp in the years Vick was hurt.

I think Higgins is gonna be very good wherever he goes. I think if he gets signed by the Chargers, Broncos, or Commanders he’s gonna thrive. If the Bills added him he would do well here too. Not that he’s quite the fit here to be honest just that he’s still a good player

I think the only way his production would dip massively is if he was just in a terrible situation

You always need a complimentary player to off set coverages I've seen Justin Jefferson get shut down, In the pass rush when we brought in Mario Jerry Hughes had a much better stats, it is all complimentary .

His injury was strange too, fell funny and dislocated his collarbone.

The team that beat KC was a running team like buffalo - but they also have stud playmakers to counter the chiefs blitzing.  Coleman isn't that dude - not yet anyway.  Sounds like Beane challenged him to BE that dude.  Go out and win the 1x1's.

Browns speed on the outside would be something that the other team would have to think about.

Higgins may be a bit better than price, but yeah if a team signs him to be their #1 and doesn't have a top 10 QB, agree  he likely will drop way off in numbers

Marv Levy always said.... big time Free agents always hurt the team they leave more than they help the team they go too...   Not sure I always subscribe to this.. but for Tee I think this may be the case...

Agree we need a different type of receiver. Disagree that Tee Higgins is Peerless Price. Higgins is far better than Price and I always liked Peerless

Bledsoe said after his first year, he didn't know how good PP was before he got to Buffalo.  and, for a half a year, PP and Bledsoe killed it.

I remember that quote, I've used it a number of times myself over the years when talking football.

Thanks very much. These days I just can't keep up with the whole league the way I used to.

Affordable but good is the type of guy I think we'll have a reasonable chance to bring in. Appreciate it greatly.
