Obvious snub and I agree with your post. I personally envisioned Dolac as a 5th round prospect with an opportunity to move up slightly if he tested well. The guy can flat out ball, both in run support and coverage. He may not be a stud in the NFL, but there should definitely be a place for him

There definitely will be a place for him in the league..  he will grind out special teams great too

The thing that makes it tough for his draft status is his playing competition and size / athleticism combo

If he was 6'3 238 lb and ran in the 4.5s.. he could go in the top three or four

Being around 225-230 with not a lot of room to add weight and concerns about his man coverage ability at the next level puts him in squarely as a developmental type guy rn who has good tape with instincts

Which is why he's mostly pegged as an undrafted or late round pick

I think the lack of size/athleticism actually moves him up the Bills board

West Seneca East graduate and first team AP all American shaun Dolac has another uphill battle to the league

Being snubbed from every major All-Star game and the NFL combine

The latest talented Buffalo bulls linebacker will have to wow at the pro Day to catch some more eyes

I have a sixth round grade on him and expect him to go undrafted at this point but priority UDFA and he will get his chance to stick in the league

At this point I will not be surprised if he ends up signing with Buffalo as an undrafted free agent and reunites with Buffalo Joe

A local kid to first team All-American to Buffalo Bills linebacker sounds like a movie

It’s a hard pass for me. Buffalo needs to get bigger and nastier. We already 2 smaller, elite LBs. I wish they would move TB and MM to the outside and draft a big bruiser to throw in the middle.

At the end of the day if you're taking a kid undrafted.. it's hard to say hard no

Because it's little risk... The 12 undrafted free agency they bring in aren't making or breaking anything

The day of a two down run stuffer is basically obsolete.. it's like a dinosaur.. extinct.. Brandon spikes does not have a place on the NFL roster anymore

You need to have some ability to run and cover.. because if a quarterback like Josh sees Brandon spikes on the field on first down .. he audibles and throws right at him

You can't be one-dimensional

Tremaine was the biggest middle linebacker in the NFL... And he was a run stuffer not a pass coverage guy.. and we couldn't wait to get rid of him

Because of liabilities... Two games of Terrell Bernard and people were singing hallelujah

So he's just about Matt Milano's size and speed.

Milano's low 40 was 4.58.

But his higher ones were just about what are mentioned there as guesses for Dolac. Too early to know, really, till we start to see actual 40 times rather than informed guesses.

I like what little I know about Dolac a lot. Always in the right spot. Good instincts.

Tremaine was an excellent pass coverage guy, but more so zone than man. There really isn't a comparison there.

Tremaine intimidated quarterbacks not to throw his way because of his length

Any quarterback that ever did had a lot of success.. let's be real smart quarterbacks were targeting him because he was easier to Target than the other people on the field

I mean Milano is better in coverage..  Bernard is better in coverage now ... He's not some coverage savant he had a 56 coverage grade this year

If he was Sean McDermott's Buffalo version of Luke kuechly we would have paid him

And I'm not comparing dolac to Tremaine Edmunds.. I'm saying we went from a first round pick in Edmunds to a mid round pick in Bernard and was singing hallelujah because how much better Bernard was in coverage

I want to congratulate these Edmunds traits-vs-ability claims for making another appearance tonight, 2/18/25. May this argument NEVER die. I agree with you btw, but have concerns about (and some contradictory tenderness for) the 1st claim. I don't think anyone has ever convincingly proven that Edmunds ACTUALLY deterred pass attempts, but I love it coming up again. Has it been demonstrated convincingly?

I had the same question.  @Buffalo716 any tea?

So I was told it was nothing against Utah State or anything they did to dolac...

He went in after the fall semester... Went right to work, earned a starting job at Utah State

But something was always off... I guess you could call it home sickness from a kid who never really left wny..  Utah State was a great opportunity to play a little higher competition, play some bigger schools and put that on tape.. get a lil NIL , and another scheme experience

But as I was told he just never felt right ... And he had some family issues...He prayed on it and UB was where his heart was... So he reached out to lembo and asked if he'd be willing to have him return to the program.. Lembo did his diligence and asked the players on the team if they wanted Shaun back which was a resounding yes

To me, Dolac looks like a late round guy (or priority UDFA) who will make a NFL roster as a backup and special teams guy.  He might start on a practice squad and work his way up.  He's a very good football player with great instincts.  He reminds me of Bernard, who is a good player, but small for a NFL LB.  Similar to Andressen.  I'd surmise that Dolac is a better football player than some of the guys who were invited to the combine, but who may be a little bit taller, heavier, or faster.  I'm sure that all of these points have been made upthread.

There could be a role on the Bills for Dolac, but it would likely be at the expense of Andressen, Ulofishio, or Spector.  It appears that all 3 of them (and Bernard) are within 1 inch of each other in height and within 7-8 pounds in weight.  Cut "Buffalo Joe" but add "Buffalo Shawn?"  If the Bills don't attempt to draft him or pick him up, I believe that another team will.

Two reasons. 1) Utah State coach that recruited him left. 2) Remember UB was a cluster**** under Mo Linguist, which he made worse when he left late for Alabama. But Lembo made a good impression on players who stayed, many who kept in touch with Dolac. Between the uncertainty at Utah State and the positive vibes coming from UB, Shaun decided to come back. Turned out to be a good choice.

What do you base that assessment on? Because he played in the MAC? If there was a similar player in another conference who led the nation in tackles, would you have the same take? I'll be happy to add him to the Bills. We need more talent at LB.

Dolac entered the portal before his coach who was fired left.. Shaun was missing UB before that even happened

There was a lot of family stuff going on

I base the assessment on the fact that he's on the small side (like many of the Bills other LBs) and probably isn't as athletic as some of the big conference foes.  I didn't follow his career at UB closely, so most of my comments are conjecture.  I remember when Khalil Mack was at UB and played really well against Ohio State, solidifying that he was a star against top talent.  I don't know if Dolac had any games like that to point to.  I am on the record saying that Dolac will be in a NFL camp (whether drafted or not, but I believe he should be drafted) and make a roster, but likely start out as a backup.  Good football players are good football players, regardless of the conference they come from.  Some small conference players need a little more time to develop, but can become excellent players.  A couple of good examples are Taron Johnson and Spencer Brown.  Players from big conferences have played against more NFL-level talent than small conference players, have likely been exposed to more complex systems (not always the case), and have better strength, conditioning, rehab, and nutrition programs, so they may be more NFL-ready at the beginning of their career.
