More than 1,000 Department of Veterans Affairs employees were fired this week as part of efforts by President Donald Trump and presidential adviser Elon Musk to slash the size of the federal government.

The VA announced Thursday that roughly 2.3% of its "probationary" workforce -- those who competed for jobs but had less than a year at the VA or employees appointed to specific positions without going through the standard federal hiring process and have served less than two years -- were dismissed effective immediately.

Oh no I can't believe they let go of 1,000 temp workers who were not real employees. What are they going to do now that they only have 450,000 workers left at the VA?

You guys are having a really hard time finding things to get upset about. This is really pathetic.

Yup, those are the 'official' statistics.  Apparently it's only 1 in 450, so I must just be lucky because I know a VA counselor getting asked to leave after 7 years on his post as a Mental Health counselor.  His parents are both vets and he went to school and decided to dedicate himself to working with veterans.

Of course that sounds horrible, but I am sure that there is some missing context in your deflection. I would have to look more into it and read neutral sources before I could give a final opinion.
