I agree that there would not be a market for a trade (but would be if he was released at some point).  I think the better bet will be that Beane asks Milano to restructure his contract by reducing his comp.

No offense to Milano but he has only played one full season for us as a Bill,  he is now 30 years old.   He has more battle scars than a typical player at his position.  He clearly seems to be on the down side of his career and he is definitely replaceable at this point.  Can't beat father time and lately it hasn't been kind to Milano.  Trade him and get what you can now and go younger, stronger and faster.

Untradable, at least for anything of value.

But there are worse things in life than having Milano as a healthy starter for us next year, so I'm not crying in my beer.

Trade? To what end?

what does such a trade accomplish to make the team better?

who would be replacing him?

more off season fan / talking heads gun, and it’s only just beginning…,

The replacement is easy:  Williams.  The decision to do so:  not so easy.  It could make the team worse if Milano gets back to warrior All Pro status.  It could also have cap implications that limit the ability to get other FAs.  OTOH if you included him in a trade for someone like Garrett (let’s say Milano and Miller and a high round pick), it could balance out salaries, although I will defer to those much more expert that I on cap/salary stuff.

When it comes to veterans and when to pull the trigger, I always remember what Bill Walsh said: you’re better off getting rid of a guy a year too early than a year too late.  Given Milano’s age and injury history he might fit that.  Love the guy, a great Bill, but the NFL is a harsh business sometimes.

Idk I'm thinking Williams could potentially be the replacement for Bernard. I'm not 100% positive he could do it smoothly but he would definitely give us a little more size and thump in there.

Reminds me of just how snake-bit the Bills have been with injuries. They might have been among the most healthy teams overall the past five years, but the injuries to White, Milano, and Miller--arguably their three best players at the time--were body blows. The team went from one of the best defenses in the league (in points allowed and EPA) to truly mediocre. Meanwhile, the lynchpins of their defense, Poyer and Hyde, both hit the wall at the same time, and the new generation--Rousseau, Oliver, Epenesa, Bernard, Williams, Elam, and Basham, have been underwhelming. Only Benford has exceeded expectations. Bad luck? Bad talent evaluation? Or bad coaching? Maybe some combination. In any event, it won't be easy to turn it around next year.

Anyway, back to Milano. Definitely keep him. He can still be a star. So can Rousseau on the right side with a powerhouse rusher on the left (not Miller). Maybe Bishop will turn out to be a force, too. And I love Taron and Bernard. The others... Let's just say this defense needs an infusion of talent. Not sure of the cap implications, but I wouldn't be grieving if Beane got at least one high draft pick for some combination of Oliver, Epenesa, and Elam. I would love to see a more talented set of defensive tackles, a monster edge, and a top cornerback. Beane has ten picks to work with, three in the first two rounds--possibly four if he can trade the three I mentioned. And he can create cap room for at least one big signing. It CAN be done, especially since the offense only needs one top player.

All eyes on you, Beane.

Um let me think ------ HELL NO .

I would trade Oliver before i would Millano, at least Millano has out played his draft selection Ed is so spotty and hasn't really lived up to where he was drafted, if he was a third round pick then yah but to date he's not that guy ...

I could see the Bills attempt to work out a contract restructure with Milano. However if they need cap space, more drastic measures could follow. He is scheduled to count $15.8 million on the cap in 2025; the dead cap hit is $17.2 million.  Doing so with a post-June 1 designation would allow them to spread the cap over two years and they could open up $9.6 million in 2025 cap space. It is not unthinkable that the Bills would move on. There is no recent evidence that suggests he will give them a full season. We saw them take similar measures with other team icons last year. It’s the right move for replenishing defensive talent.

This. His value to the Bills is more than we could get back due to his age/contract etc.

I read some articles saying he's a trade candidate. Thoughts?

And what would you want for him?

Would be hard to see him go but it's all business in the end...

Those are click bait, I'm sure....you fell for the trap.

There is zero chance Milano is traded.  He's a locker room/coach favorite and I think he'll be back to our best defender this year. He was looking closer to himself by end of season, that leg/knee injury was always going to take a while to come back from.

The cap implications are the biggest roadblock here.  But, if you find a way to get through that, it would absolutely depend on the return.  Do the Browns or Raiders want him as a piece of a trade for Garrett or Allen?  Does another team like the Jets want him for Wilson or another team want him for a great outside WR?  It's unlikely in both cases, but if that was their ask for whatever reason, I'm definitely listening.
