MikePJ76 Posted Monday at 04:38 PM Posted Monday at 04:38 PM (edited) This is kind of interesting. Green Bay Packers: Jaire Alexander, CB Alexander has played in only seven games each of the last two regular seasons because of four separate injuries. There may be a disconnect off the field that hasn’t become public, too, despite general manager Brian Gutekunst saying otherwise. Cutting or trading the two-time second-team All-Pro before June 1 would free up about $6.8 million in cap space. Alexander has the third-highest cap number on the team for 2025 behind quarterback Jordan Love and defensive end Rashan Gary. That may not be worth it for how little he’s been available and whatever else might be going on with the 28-year-old. — Matt Schneidman this too. Washington Commanders: Jonathan Allen, DT One season remains on Allen’s four-year, $72 million extension. The terms included a $22.47 million salary-cap hit but only a $6 million dead-cap charge. Washington has significant cap room regardless, but it also has DT Daron Payne counting north of $20 million and an Allen replacement in 2024 second-rounder Johnny Newton on the roster. Allen’s streak of healthy seasons ended with a pectoral tear, though he surprisingly returned before the playoff run. His power and pass rushing would be missed. However, his sack totals have declined annually since recording nine in 2021, and he is entering his age 30-season. — Ben Standig Edited Monday at 04:44 PM by MikePJ76 3 Quote

No way you trade for a guy like that. There are a few on the list though who fit the bill for buffalo no pun intended. Vets looking for prove it deals or older vets maybe looking to win. 1 Quote

Benford is the only player on defense who could possibly Garner a first round or second round pick. Linebackers are either frequently injured or not very good. Tauron Johnson is a solid enough nickle back, but zero offenses are actually worried about him. personally I feel like the best defensive players available as free agents should be our targets. Sam for the draft. offense will be fine. I've said it before DL is 1a and secondary is 1b. This is the reality. 1 3 1 Quote

An absolute dawg! With that said, he's a bit of a basket case, has demonstrated behavior detrimental to the team and he has been injured a lot. So there definitely would be a buyer beware tag pinned all over him. Jonathan Allen, would love that guy but they have so much room and defense is a need, I just don't see them parting ways with him. 2 Quote

Unfortunately, it’s not as easy as identifying position groups. Each position has multiple assignments: pass rush, run stopping, man/zone pass coverage, etc., and even more detailed aspects of where those struggles occurred: interior, exterior, deep, middle, short, up the seam, boundary, field, etc. Compounding that challenge — because we’re not going to be able to address every weakness — is rightly identifying which aspects of the game are going to be the winning approach from our competitors. Gif several years we saw the passing game take center stage, however, three of last year’s most successful teams, including the SB champs, were largely powered by RBs they acquired in the offseason, relatively cheaply. Will other teams follow suit and continue that trend? If we’re going to bring in a game-changing type player (Garrett/Crosby type), McBeane’s biggest challenge is going to be finding solutions to those priorities issues, on the cheap. 3 minutes ago, Magox said: When Jaire is healthy, he's as good as it gets in man to man coverage. Yeah if Alexander gets cut and is healthy, that’s a high high priority for me. Allen would be interesting if we could find a good trade for EO, they’re too similar, to me, to pair together. He's managed 6300 yards and 48 TD in 6 seasons despite mediocre QB play most of his NFL career. Getting him in Buffalo for a 2nd and a 4th would be a steal. I'd do cartwheels and I've never done a cartwheel in my life...lol... The rest of the AFC would shudder at the thought of DK matched with Josh in Buffalo... He's literally exactly what we need and then some. 6 1 Quote

I’m in the PNW and unfortunately the Seahawks are on here EVERY. WEEK. I agree that he’s a stud. I was also probably the most outspoken person on this board wanting him over EO in that draft, so I like him plenty. My POV isn’t that we shouldn’t go for him, just that we have limited resources to fill a lot of holes this offseason, and trading 2 picks AND taking on his big $# severely limits our abilities to affect the other needs. 2 1 Quote

Maybe the 2nd most... And FYI... He's VERY tradable for the Hawks this year (21M in dead cap with a 10M in cap savings), and because both he and the Bills would want to work an extension (he has an 18M base salary in 2025) it could be very cap friendly in 2025 and probably 2026... Imo, not really because I seriously think we should put all chips in for this season. Don't worry about a slight over pay in terms of draft capital. We will still have a first and second rounder to play with. More perhaps if we trade some current players like Kincaid, Milano. Much action to be done but even as a standalone decision , I would like to acquire a stud like DK 1 Quote

Giving up a 2 and a 4 in a year you are rebuilding your defense and then being on the hook 32 million for that player is truly insane. If they made some deal that involved Seattle getting that number lower then the latter of our 2's would be ok. Before any trade would be made he would need a new contract. I just don't think they are going to sign up for DK metcalf at 32 million a year for like 5 years. What would it say to the other soon to be free agents on the team if they gave DK Metcalk 32 million a year? He will have to get traded to someone with a lot of cap space. Quote
gordong Posted Monday at 05:45 PM Posted Monday at 05:45 PM No you need to fix the damn defense if you signing one splash player it better be a defensive player. nothing wrong with the offense would I love to have another WR yes... but no team doesn't have some holes. try to resign Cooper draft a speed guy in the mid round. rest is defense. 1 hour ago, JerseyBills said: Thoughts? He will count 32 million this year on the cap, how are you making room for that contract. He is a free agent next year, are you trading away and 2 and a 4 and then cutting other players to make room for him this year to have him walk next year. that would mean they traded a 2, 3, and 4 from the 25 draft for two wr who won't be on the team in 2026. this would be an epic mishandling of the cap and the roster and would set the team in a bad direction. The only way a guy like Metcalf would work in buffalo is if they traded him to buffalo for like a 4 this year and a 3 and 4 next year and buffalo gives him an extension and his cap numbers are small over the first three years and you live with huge dead cap hits when he is 31 and on. Mortgaging the future by giving away two more picks in this years draft and then letting multiple players walk because you can't sign them because you paid a wr in a trade again is a bad way to do business. They will never admit it but I bet they are pretty bummed they don't have that 3rd round pick in april after what they got out of amari cooper. Couple that with the Diggs drama and I bet it would take a minor miracle for the Bills to trade high picks and give huge money to a wr again. I imagine the draft is the way forward at the position. 1 Quote

But if the opportunity to add a player like Metcalf comes along, and all it's going to cost you is a 2nd and a 4th and a restructure that will keep him cap friendly for at least the next two years. That's a win/win. You can still do plenty on Defense. Playing it safe has got the Bills this far... They used a late 3rd on a DT last year and no one even mentions his name. The Bills need difference makers. DK Metcalf is a difference maker. 2 1 Quote
