Same here. I wanted him on the Bills prior to being drafted by NE. Guy oozes potential and would be a nice project for trade bait instead of proven losers like Trubisky (why is he ahead of Mike White on the depth chart?) Seems like they get Josh’s buddies as backups opposed to players with a higher ceiling.

Mike White has been running on fumes since his first start and is in the right spot for him. Josh hasn't missed a start since 2018 and just won MVP. They should be doing everything possible to support him in the SB window instead of wasting resources developing a project

Makes sense - Lawrence has been physically beaten up the past two seasons in Jacksonville and has endured a sea of changes in the coaching staff and now FO.

The Steelers are desperate, stuck in purgatory as a 9-11 win team that will never get a crack at the top prospects.

Rando should try harder next time.  At least learn to spell Lawrence.  Next he will be talking about Joe Burrows and Drake May.

What, you're telling me I'm spelling Burroughs and Mae wrong?

Then he could be due for an injury any time. In a tight AFC, I want a guy that can steal a win or 2 if Josh goes down for a handful of games. What’s Trubisky going to teach Josh? Draft a guy with potential and let him sit behind him to possibly be used as trade bait. The Patriots did it all the time. They got a 2nd rounder for Jimmy Garropollo and packaged Matt Casell for 10 year starter 3x SB winner Patrick Chung. Jacoby Brissett was also traded and ended up having a pretty good career although it didn’t work out in the Pats favor.

The Pats* also drafted Michael Bishop, Kevin OConnell, Bailey Zappe, Jarrett Stidham, Danny Etling, Ryan Mallet all of whom failed to make a difference. Mallet and OConnell were 3rd round picks. Stidham was a 4th as was Zappe. This board would explode if we used high picks on backup QBs. Yeah they got a 2 2nds and a bad WR for JimmyG, Cassell and Brissett, but considering all the other picks, its not a great ROI

Trubisky has won a lot of games in the NFL on worse rosters than the Bills. He's not there to teach Josh, hes there so you don't have to teach him in an emergency.

I get your argument, I really do. But multiple teams with established starters and championship aspirations, including the two in the SB this year have vet backups that failed as starters (Pickett and Wentz). If you don't have a QB, you draft developmental guys. If you do, you get the vet backup. Again, JMO

This is such a weird story to blow up if it never happened.

I think it did happen, but both sides want it to go away because Jacksonville's HC just responded by saying "Duuuuuuuvalllll!" with that clown like smile.

Jacksonville wants all 12 of their fans to settle down and renew season tickets, and the Steelers don't want it out there that they tried to trade for a QB in case they are stuck with Russ.

Plus then whatever the Steelers do at QB wasn't their first choice.

Like that Brady kid?

No, not like that Brady kid.  Brady was extremely accurate in college and great at reading defenses, but was skinny and not very athletic, with mediocre arm strength, which is why he fell to the 6th round.

Milton was highly inaccurate in college and struggled to read coverages, but was huge and athletic with an absolute cannon for an arm, which is why he was drafted at all.

Both were at Michigan, but Milton left and went to Tennessee when he lost his starting job to Cade McNamara. At Tennessee, Milton lost his starting job to Hendon Hooker (and got it back after Hooker got injured and then later left for the NFL).  McNamara then lost his starting job to JJ McCarthy, and transferred to Iowa, where he lost the starting job again, and he's now transferring to East Tennessee State.  (Hooker was later drafted in the 3rd round by the Lions and is on the roster as a backup and McCarthy was a top-10 pick by the Vikings but sat out this past season after knee surgery.)

I've said this many times whenever Milton comes up.  I have nothing against the kid.  He's a great kid with a lot of physical skill.  I'd be happy to see him succeed in the NFL, as long as it's in the NFC and not a threat to the Bills.  I happened to follow his career closely because he started his career at my alma mater and now he's in the AFC East.  Maybe I'm wrong and the kid will be a star in the NFL and I'll have to eat crow on TwoBillsDrive.  But from what I've seen over the years, he has a lot of similarity to EJ Manuel in him.  Big, strong, athletic, hard-working kid with a cannon arm, but doesn't have the ability to process information quickly enough on the field to be a successful starting QB.  Given his great athletic gifts, he'll flash occasionally and have a great game (which Manuel did too), but isn't going to be a consistently good player.
