You must have missed SB media week- Garrett took it upon himself to say what he did in front of the media.

 

I can careless about Myles, I was just using him as an example yesterday before his huge deal became public today.  Again, a player using media to advance his contract demands (Garrett quickly pivoted from wanting to go to a winner, right? lol).

I heard what he said- He said that after the reports were leaked about the trade rumours.

 

It didn't happen at all with Garrett lol. He wrote the letter after the rumours were leaked. And he never used social media, putting out passive aggressive comments. I have no idea why you're comparing cooks actions to this, as there's not one parallel to it

I just don't see how Garrets "use of the media" , is even remotely close to what cook did. I guess I'm just not sure why it's even being brought up

He is going into his 9th season, very rare to get a big contract at that age.  The closest comp we have is Derrick Henry who is regarded as a much better RB signed his deal one year ago when he was 30 for $8M AAV.

 

RB rates are definitely on the rise, this is now the 2nd RB that reflects that.

 

If Jones at age 30 entering into season 9 is $10M AAV then Cook who is age 25 going into his 4th season is going to be valued considerably higher.

 

I’m just surprised they offered him a deal that high

He put up more yards than Cook last year and I'm assuming they can get out of it after next season with minimum dead money if he starts to show decline.

He had a good season but I wouldn’t consider it to be better stats.  He had 25% more carries than Cook with only about 120 more total yards and his epa was lower, had almost half a yard per carry lower, 10 less TD’s and he fumbled the ball 5 times and lost it 3 times vs Cook fumbling it once with none lost.

 

Cook had the better season.  With that said, Aaron Jones is still producing, just surprised he got paid as high as he did considering the tread.

 

From my perspective if you are Cook’s agent it strengthens his negotiating hand.  I hope we can get him to extend for $12m AAV but I think it will be higher than that

Cook has a year left on his rookie deal, giving him a 4 year extension $60 million,  I'm sure we can go the next two seasons with minimal cap hit,  he gets his money and we don't get the big cap hit for a few more seasons,  when the cap has increased by about 50 million. I think this isn't a difficult contract to are on.  I also think Cook has superstar skills. We need to keep him.

The latest tailback to re-up with his current team is Vikings running back Aaron Jones.

Jones has agreed to terms on a two-year, $20 million deal with $13 million guaranteed, per multiple reports. He signed a one-year, $7 million deal after the Packers released him last March.

In 2024, Jones gained 1,138 rushing yards. He added 405 receiving yards and scored seven total touchdowns.

There's a lot of variance in TD's season to season when it comes to RB's.  The fact that he had 25% more carries is one of the main arguments against extending Cook.  He only averaged .4 ypc less than him but we have the better o-line.  Cook definitely cleaned up his fumbling issues though and had less focus drops than last year.  I'd be fine with $12m per year but $15m is too much for a great but not elite RB who we can't trust to pass protect so his snap percentage is limited.

Ray Davis in his only start scrimmaged 150 total yards.

 

Can Davis and a mid round pick replace Cook? Probably not fully.
 

But if it's 80-85 percent production plus another 15 mil in cap space for the roster , then I'm choosing that for sure
