Because Cook has 1 ability that no other RB currently on the roster, or on the Bills in the last 10-15 years has had: the ability to take it to the house on any given play.

He's a one-man deep threat. If he gets to the 2nd level clean, look out. Poyer learned the hard way as he watched Cook blow right by him.

You have great stats and analysis comparing numbers. Fine. Make those say whatever you want. But neither Ray Davis nor Ty Johnson are breaking off a 50yd TD run anytime soon. Cook had MULTIPLE this year alone.

Yeah there are a lot of explosive RB's in this draft.   Treveyon Henderson might go right where Cook did in round 2 and he is probably a more polished player right now than Cook is after 3 years of seasoning.   More explosive than Cook for damn sure and he can actually pick up a blitz like a champ.

We might be limited in what we can get in return for Cook because of the fact he's pressing for this new deal. Arizona, Chicago, Washington, and possibly the Giants make the most sense to me. Arizona especially to build if they plan on keeping Murray. That would give them Murray, MHJ, Cook, and McBride as foundational pieces in the skill group. Probably get a 3rd and a conditional in 2026.

It's always true that RB's shouldn't be worth much in trade.   But all it takes is one team.  Prime All-Pro DHop for worn out RB David Johnson and a 2nd round pick actually happened.   And that was before this "RB renaissance".   It's apropos that LA Chargers get mentioned because Harbaugh would be a guy who might value a veteran RB like that.

That’s the key to Cook’s value for me. I would be all for resigning him if he was a solid pass blocker and could stay on the field for every critical 3rd and 4th down.

I've been secretly hoping to grab him with one of our 2nds if the Cook situation goes south. Now you've ruined it😂😆🤣. Seriously though, I like him a lot as a fit for us.

A high 3rd would probably be as nice as we could hope for. But that pick could really open up this draft for the Bills.

Cook has been a great RB for the Bills.

BUT - "when they show you who they are, believe them the first time!"

He is showing himself to be a DIVA. His social media demonstration is an attempt to hold the Bills hostage.

If he succeeds, he will continue this behavior.

No mater how good Diggs was we were better off with him GONE.

I’d trade Cook for a 2nd Round Pick asap, if it’s offered.

If we’re being offered a 3rd.. it’s tough..

On one hand, we could use him next year and get a comp pick for him the following year.

On the other hand, he knows that and may not want to play without a contract.

I’d probably pull the trigger on a middle 3rd tbh.

Our biggest focus this offseason needs to be fixing the Defense and finding Josh reliable down the field threats to open things up for our slot guys and tight ends.   Our running game engine is JA’s dual threat ability and our OL..

We relied on Davis for one game and he was a star…

Does our GM agree with this?

When has this FO shown they care about landing a true deep threat for Allen?

I guess that was John Brown for one year in 2019?

Does our OC agree with this? He runs the ball all the time.

Ray Davis averaged 3.9 ypc on the season.

They are faced with the same decision next season, so yeah? They get a third, and they don’t have a gigantic RB contract bound to be a waste.

In a vacuum, would I rather keep Cook? Of course, he’s a nice player. But would I lose sleep over $15M and a third instead of him? Not for a second.

Because RB’s still don’t matter much.

Is that 3rd Round pick going to be invested right back into a RB or is that ticketed for defense as we try to copy the Eagles?

Because we’ve done the 3rd Round RB twice and it resulted in two below average speed players.

I know for sure it’s not going into a real WR for Allen.

How did he show himself vs. KC? Do you agree it’s more important how you perform in the AFC Championship Game than it is what your profile pic on IG is?

Cook played well that game.

But if he holds out going into training camp demanding for 15 mil... If it were up to me?  Then see ya later Jimbo.

Hes a good player but he's also a RB and he's replaceable. The one game he missed against the Jets, Ray Davis did just fine- Having over 150 yards in total .

If I was running the show, would be a high value position. CB, OT, EDGE, WR.

we just drafted Ray Davis and he was fine.

Do you think $15M is his hard line? Have you ever seen anyone start negotiations with their drop dead number? $15M is a the starting point of the negotiation. I think he ends up at $12.5Mish which feels about right.

No and that's fair- Bills probably want him around 10 and he is saying 15, so I'm sure he is using 15 as a negotiating point. Posting all that on social media and deleting everything bills is just a bit immature IMO though

We will see how it plays out. I got a feeling a hold out is coming

It’s just the way of the world in 2025. Social media made that a thing. It’s not going to change; the train has left the station. He may hold out but I suspect that they pay him or deal him prior.

Ya you're probably right. Cause if they do trade him, got to imagine it will be before the draft

Stop comparing Cook to Diggs. Diggs posted things that were shots at the team and Josh - to force his way out of a situation he didn't want to be in. James Cook is trying to get paid. These are not the same situations.

Every single year, multiple players do the Social Media thing when their contract negotiations are happening. A lot of the time, they end up re-sigining and all is fine. Look at Brandon Aiyuk with the 49ers last season, as an example. It's just the way it is for young athletes in today's social media society. It's extemely common. I don't understand why fans like you take it as such an offense.

For every "diva", there's probably two or three more that would do the same thing if their contract negotiations had gone poorly.

I’m not sure that I see the point in doing a deal with Cook before seeing his 2025 season. If he has another stellar season how much will his contract grow - maybe 1-2 million. But if he blows an ACL his deal will be half of what he is looking for now. The risk/reward here is not in the bills favor. Also, the franchise tag number for RB last year was 12 million - if you got to the end of 2025 and felt like you couldn’t live without James Cook you can tag him.
2 years of reasonable control still - then figure out the future at RB.

Not really a fair comment.. Ray Davis was used, a lot, end of game grind the clock out against heavy boxes.

I like that idea.  Only thing is whether Cook may hold out rather than risk injury for another year or two before securing the money he wants.
