To be clear, I’m not saying I’d do it for no reason. I’m saying if it’s looking like it’s approaching a hold out situation. As much as I agree Cook is a valued piece for a championship team, if he’s going to hold out and likely not perform all that well, you should try to maximize value before that point imo. What would make you think he's likely not to perform all that well? A guy in his contract year that is all about the money is going to be in great shape and playing his ass off to get paid. A 3rd rounder now vs a 3rd rounder down the road is nowhere near enough of a difference to just throw away a key piece to a championship run. The idea that it is even close is nothing more than pointless posturing. 1 Quote

It puts everything back in their court. The only thing they can do now is B word about being traded and I doubt very much they do that. 1 Quote

It's in both parties best interest to do very well this year of the contract. He sure is in the best Offense for him right now. To shine for both his future contract etc and the Bills Love it show em James !💪 2 minutes ago, babulator said: This guy says his agent has negotiated a grand total of 1 contract. Guys who hold out don't perform all that well historically speaking. Melvin Gordon famously held out the first 5 games in Charger land in 2019. He went from 5.1 YPC to 3.8 YPC. 1 Quote

By this same logic though, does that mean the likes of Shakir, Rousseau, Benford and Bernard may all slack off now though? 1 Quote

Yes. GMs have to trust they re-sign guys that want to bring it after their payday. Quote
BillMafia716ix Posted Sunday at 11:07 PM Posted Sunday at 11:07 PM Doesn’t look good for Cook. If James Cook has another big year, that number is only going to go up. I just don’t see them investing all that money at the RB position Quote
Magox Posted yesterday at 01:30 AM Posted yesterday at 01:30 AM It’s all negotiations. The Bills know that Cook doesn’t want to play another year at his current contract level and they are in no rush to get a deal done. The Bills have the upper hand and I suspect a deal gets done before the season. 2 Quote
Matt_In_NH Posted yesterday at 12:02 PM Posted yesterday at 12:02 PM Beane negotiating in the press while saying he does not negotiate in the press..... I have no issues with the Bills position here, you have to put your value on the guy, not all negotiations result in a deal and that is ok. 2 Quote

He saw all his classmates get paid and he was arguably the 2nd best bill last year. You could even say if he was given the ball more in the championship, the bills might win the game. I also get where the Bills are coming from and paying RBs is tough. But when you are a SB contender, you aren’t going to get better not having k. People love overrating backups but there have been plenty of cases where the backup becomes the main guy and stinks. cook has earned a raise. Now the question is how much. 1 Quote
