I do think Allen needs a WR1, which won't be easy to acquire, since he'll either be very expensive or high-round pick, neither of which the Bills can easily afford giving the alarming state of its defense. Aside from that need, they should be set on offense (given that Cook doesn't hold out) and can devote most of their attention and cap room to defense.

What will it take to turn this bottom-five unit into a top-five? An elite pass rusher (e.g., a Garrett or Crosby), AND a run-stuffing tackle, AND a top cornerback, along with quality safety, linebacker, and corner depth. In short, pretty much all ten draft picks and all the cap room Beane can create.

Even a top 15 defense might be enough if Allen keeps being Allen.  Just not being complete walkover in the playoffs might be enough. The playoffs being the key word.  Being a top 10 d in the regular season means nothing when there is no resistance in the playoffs.  Even just to make the other offense have to work a bit to score, and not giving up 10 yards a play. I don't think the team needs to be a top five unit to win, assuming the offense does not  collapse.

I agree, but IMO the defense is not as bad as everyone says. Since 2019 the Bills Defense is number 2 in points allowed per game, Baltimore is number 1.

Since 2019 the Bills have played 9 playoff games that were not against KC, allowing only 19.2 points per game and having a record of 7-2.

Since 2019 the Bills have played 4 playoff games against KC allowing a whopping 35 Points per game and an 0-4 record.

The problem with the Defense is against only 1 team.

Go Bills!!

The Bills have been one of the best teams since Beane and McDermott got here. I doubt Beane would stay here as a puppet GM. If he left the Bills, he would be unemployed for about 5 seconds. Same with McDermott. I am sure McDermott has input and both of them have had numerous conversations on improving the team. But as the GM Beane has the final say on building the roster. As I mentioned I don't think he would stay to be a puppet GM for Sean.

Everyone fired seems to get rehired by another team at some point.  Why would that be a reason to keep a GM or HC?

Well again, what I don't get is after we scored the most points in the league, thinking we need more O.   The talent in this draft is DL, go get it and a corner or two.

Teams will analyze the tape. We still lack explosive play capability, and it's a deficiency not to have that. Objectively, boundary receiver is a need on offense. Josh Allen should have that in his arsenal. If you have a problem adding that one piece on offense, I think that is an unbalanced view. You can do that and still grab DL and a corner or two. I'm assuming DL, CB, and S are also the most likely FA targets.

i think that's because McD has still fallen 2 steps short of the goal a superbowl win.   Offenses get progressively better the further you advance in the playoffs.   First round you're playing a WC team, probably a little better than .500, then most likely a division winner, then probably the no.1 seed then you have to beat the other conference champion.   The defense has never been at the level it needs to be.   Even more reason to address the defense that falls short.

I need a break from the Beane sucks at drafting and whatever. The fact is we are set on the Oline and the shelf is full. We also have a sustainable AFC playoff team.

I'm gonna look forward to seeing what he does with this Dline now. Is he the fastest to build a perennial contender?....obviously not, but he also won't put us in position to go bankrupt having to pay everyone at once.
