I may be a minority here but I think that Buffalo should extend Greg Rousseau to a 3-4 year deal at $15M/yr or somewhere in that ballpark and draft a fat NT in the bottom of RD1..

I understand that fans say that he’s a good player and not a great one but when rebuilding our DL, it would make sense to cut the bottom feeders first.

Rousseau and Oliver is a really solid base to work with when fortifying our DL.

Buffalo should look drafting a true NT, another DE and another WR in RDs 1-2. I don’t care what they do after that. If the want to sign a top safety in FA, that would be nice too.

You don't draft a NT in round 1 who can't contribute to the pass rush. It's like an unspoken law unless he's guaranteed to be Ted Washington 2 and guess what?.  ...there has only been one Ted Washington.

Jordan Davis, Vince Wilfork and William "Refrigerator" Perry might disagree.

Well done, there’s others too.. Vita Vea immediately comes to mind.. Jalen Carter, Quinnen Williams and Jeffrey Simmons, Ndamukong Suh..

Not sure about Carter and Simmons but Suh and Williams weren't NT's, they were more so pass rushing 3 tech DT's. But Vita Vea was mostly thought of as a NT and he's been a fantastic pick for the Bucs.

They can do both. We can likely find a DT/NT at 30 that can do both, it was implied.

If the Bills don’t trade for Myles Garrett then they should look to draft two of these.

The Bills should trade for Garrett AND draft 2

BIG DT’s with whatever picks we have left since it seems like a 4th or 6th round DT could actually be good.  Please, no more undersized players at interior DL

With Carter and Oliver the Bills are set on quicker interior DT's. They kind of are stuck with D.Jones I'm fine with him a rotational DT at his age a bit past his prime but he can still be a decent backup/rotational 1-tech. But they need to bring in 2 big bodies at DT. Gotta keep from getting routinely gashed up the middle when the team plays tougher rushing attacks.

Beane has spent plenty of resources on DL-Rousseau, Oliver 1st round picks.  AJ 2nd round pick. $140 million Von.  High draft picks Boogie, Harrison.  FA signing Williams, Star, etc  Very little return on investment.

The problem is not that we ignore the DL.  The problem is missing again and again.

Ive always been a big Beane fan.  But his failures on DL, with our 1st round picks, and ignoring WR, my patience is wearing thin.

Yeah, he kinda sucks at drafting top 3 round defensive players. He's great 4th round and on.  Go figure????

Yeah I understand BPA, but do you understand roster numbers?  Do you actually think having 3 rookie D lineman will make the team better in 2025??  Sounds like Tasker doesn't understand it anymore than you do!  Make he got hit in the head one to many times.

Yes, I understand roster numbers.  And games are won in the trenches,. Like I said, Carter and Ed are back.  The Bills rotate DL.  Last year they kept 4 DT, and 4 DE.  Carter and Ed= 2.  Add 2 DTs in the first 2 rounds, the deepest position in the draft.  2+2=4.  2 veterans, and 2 rookies.  We keep multiple DL on practice squad.

2+2=4 what don't you understand?

Hurts was able to hit deep a few times, we need a good fast WR for Allen aswell

Agreed, but 1-Tech and Edge first. Then add speed at boudary receiver. A dominating DL will put us over the top. Allen >> Hurts, but we have no elite D linemen.

The Dolphins' sucking is one reason our light defensive line and soft zone defense work well during the regular season but struggle in the playoffs. It's only been nine years, and people often bring up that Beane and McDermott took over a tire fire, when the team was close to being good. If you swap Tyrod with Josh that team would be in the same position this team is in.

I don't buy that Beane or McDermott team building or game day philosophies will change. It’s been 9 years and the one constant is a terrible dline. I don't see that changing.

Thanks for the thoughtful insight dr downer.  I bet you feel like you walk around with a dark cloud over your head.

We're set at OL.

Daquan also fell off a cliff after an elite first season here

Carter looked great before the injury

Wouldn't mind 2 DL in the first 3 picks.

Daquan was good in the playoffs.  He will be a nice rotational player next year and not the starter hopefully.

eagles gm has drafted either an olinemen or dlinemen in the first round of EVERY draft since he has been the gm.

worked out pretty well. eagles lines are elite.

YO beanie...stop being the alleged smartest guy in the room.

So... this isn't even close to true. He took the GM role in 2015:

2015: Nelson Agholor: WR - no longer with the team

2016: Carson Wentz: QB - no longer with the team

2017: Derek Barnett: DE

2018: Traded out of first round with Ravens, who took Lamar Jackson, the Eagles took a Dallas Goedert in the 2nd

2019: Andre Dillard - Tackle - no longer with the team

2020: Jalen Reagor: WR - no longer with the team and Justin Jefferson was the next pick

2021: Devonta Smith: WR

2022: Jordan Davis - DT

2023: Jalen Carter - DT/DE

2024: Quinyon Mitchell - CB

So, he has 1 offensive lineman and 3 defensive lineman picked in round one of the past 10 drafts. 40%.

It's actually an impressively low number. Worth noting, he also has several horrible picks. The guy misses a lot, just like every GM.

Do you not see how the above sentences contradict? If McDermott tells him what position he wants Beane to draft and Beane does as McDermott wishes, how is this having autonomy?

For example, if Beane wants a defensive tackle and McDermott wants a corner, are you making the case that Beane will win out every time? The relationship cannot completely be equal imo. I think that one of the HAS to have more power than the other.

Also, do you think that Beane can fire McDermott? I for one strongly doubt it.

In any event, I find this to be an interesting topic.

Being that all HCs tell GMs what they want / need,  and that all teams draft for BPA at positions of need/want, it’s a murky line as to who is doing what.., I suspect that sometimes Sean gets who he wants, and the rest of the time Beane makes those decisions, it’s very likely the same across the league, likely the have both screwed the pooch at times.

Control the lines and you control the game,

that old saying that the game is won and lost in the trenches holds true to this day,

please, no more FA signings of old guys on the down side of their careers, 🤞

Yes;  2 vets + 2 rookies = 4 with a downgrade in overall play.

If you think having two rookies as your backups will improve play overall, I got a bridge to sell you too!  If you want to put these guys on the PS, then you better not draft them higher than the 6th round else they will be grabbed up by another team and the Bills will then have 2 + 0 = 2

But the good news is their interior D line would likely be better around the 2027 season if they follow your strategy.   I will grant you that.

I think Daquan can still contribute in a rotational role, he's just not going to be the anchor that he once was which is fine he's older and a bit banged up but as a rotational one tech you are not doing poorly.
