We hear this many times as a barrier to getting screened. But many screenings for many other potential illnesses and afflictions are painful. If that's why anyone ignores a mammogram there is not much we can do about it.

I agree.  I think the only way to get past it is if a friend or family member accompanies the woman to the screening for support and encouragement.
